The next morning, I wake to an empty dormitory but more than that, I wake to find a bit of blood trailing from what I expect is Walburga Black's bed.
I suppose I should feel bothered by this but I can only shrug, morals loose as they always are and head for the bathroom. I take my sweet time in getting ready and when I'm finally prepared for the day, I make my way to the common room. I'm not surprised to find Walburga Black hanging from one of the chandeliers, dried blood coated her face and her neck. She looks like she's been through hell and back and this doesn't not surprise me nor does it make me feel bad. She's passed out... that or she's dead but I didn't really care to check as I walked by her with a roll of my eyes and headed for the Great Hall.
The Slytherins that have gathered in the common room whispered about loudly, but never did they try to help Walburga Black down or call for help. They knew who had done it and apparently even in our sixth year, everyone already knew what Tom Riddle was capable of, the fear in the eyes, the horror in their veins, it was all there for me to see.
And as much as I hate do admit it, I quite liked that.
I was just about to leave the common room when a hand takes my elbow and stops me.
Tom Riddle's face is just as handsome today as he looked yesterday. Seeing him again has my throat tightening, and making my heart pound. It truly wasn't fair how perfectly beautiful this monster is.
His dark eyes seemed to take me in, scanning me from head to toe and only when he's sure nothing was wrong, that I was uninjured, did he interlace our fingers together and pulled me out into the dungeons.
He said nothing.
And I said nothing.
But we both knew what had happened without needing to say a word about it. If he expected me to be angry, he didn't show it. If I expected him to question me, I didn't show it either.
Silently, like nothing happened, he and I walked to breakfast together. But before we could get there, Tom tugs me away from the Great Hall.
"Where are we going?" I asked, eyes wide. "Are we missing breakfast?"
He smirks at me, those dark eyes of his gleaming. "Don't worry, Kala, I'm not taking you away from your food for long."
My lips part, ready to question him, but he presses his finger against my lips to stop me.
"Just trust me."
I wanted to say that would never happen but in this world, with this Tom Riddle, there is no where safer for Kala than with Lord Voldemort. So I follow him, trusting him, our hands interlaced, as he takes me to the Black Lake.
This time of day, we're alone. It's quiet with just the two of us, the water of the lake pushing and pulling soothingly. I let the sun shine down on my face, breathing deeply.
