Lestrange says nothing, continuing to hold her down, his face emotionless, his grip unforgiving and merciless.
But Tom walks up to me, his eyes burning with something that twists my insides. He glances down at the crying girl, uncaring and unmoved by the sounds she was making. "Speak."
Before she can say something, I'm on my feet and staring into the eyes of the future Lord Voldemort. "What are you doing, Tom?"
His lips pull up slightly. "You said you heard someone talking about me being with them— I questioned everyone, especially the Slytherins you mentioned and found her instead. I bring this to you. So you can finally drop this notion that I am with someone else when there is only you. Lestrange,"
Rabastan Lestrange doesn't need to be told twice as he roughly grabs the girl by the back of her robes and pulls her up to look at me. "He won't repeat himself."
"I made it up!" The girl screams, her glasses askew as she kneels before me, her hands up and begging. Fat tears were streaming her face. "I never touched Tom nor has he ever touched me! He doesn't even know I exist! I've never seen him with anyone else but you. Never. Please. Please, I promise I haven't. Please."
Something inside of me... is terribly pleased by this.
Very much pleased.
And I feel awful even thinking it but Draco would have never done this. Parkinson was always around him. Always. But here is Tom. Clarifying everything before the day ends and even openly offering her up to me as if a sacrifice to end a dispute I started for no reason.
And it's sick.
And it's vile.
But I am pleased.
I do not know what to do except nod and with a single dismissive hand from Tom, Lestrange drags the girl away from the courtyard, leaving me with Lord Voldemort in the making as he lifts an eyebrow.
"Now, why are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
What have I gotten myself into?
He is frightening as he is alluring. And I am afraid to trip and fall.
"Kala, why are you so intent on fighting me?" His question is innocent enough but it's the edge in his voice. The silent danger and promise of pain that makes it very hard to breathe. "On running from me? Are you having second thoughts? Did your father—"
"No." I say quickly because I do not know if my father is involved exactly but I do know what happened this morning has nothing to do with him. "Did you do something to her?"
