As we walked down the hill a person shouted out, "Percy wait!" We all turned startled and saw a blonde kid in a purple shirt followed by Grover. "We offered to be chauffeurs!" The blonde shouted with a huge grin. The boy looked about nineteen or eighteen, maybe the same age as Percy. Percy instantly smiled at the boy and ran towards him. Once they were they were close enough, they fist bumped. They actually seemed to be very close friends, like if they knew each other for a while now. I couldn't help but stare at the guy. I was barely getting use to the different shirts that the campers wore.
"Okay, well for starters we actually don't know exactly where we are going." Percy laughed nervously and the blonde just stared in shock. He really seemed to be looking up to Percy for many things. Like if Percy knew everything. Daisy, on the other hand, seemed to be really mad at the guy. I couldn't help but wonder why. She stomped off towards the van. I decided to follow her. Alex wanted to stay behind for a bit to talk to the guys. Daisy slid open the door and we both walked inside.
"I hate Romans." She growled under her breath while she fixed her braid. I stared at her in awestruck but with a slight of amazement. She can really keep her calm and hold so much inside. Her eyes darted to the back window. I barely realize that her eye color was different from Jeremy's. His were blue, hers were a caramel brown. Now that I was staring at her eyes, I realized they became watery. Then I realized about what she had said.
"What's wrong with Romans?" I asked in a calm and confused tone. I could tell she was seriously hurt. I didn't want to break her more but I was curious. She wiped her eyes and shook her head. It was pretty obvious she didn't want to talk and I knew it had something to do with the war a few years ago.
"I don't want to talk about it." She grumbled. "They just shouldn't be appreciated like they are." She looked away. Alex stepped inside the van with Percy. Daisy instantly moved to the back to seclude herself. She needed her space. Alex must have understood because he sat with me and didn't say a word. Grover got into the passenger's seat and the blonde got into the driver's.
"We'll drop you guys off by the Empire State Building. Other than that, you guys are on your own." The blonde smiled at us through the rear view mirror. Percy smiled at the blonde while Alex showed him no happiness. Daisy didn't even look at the mirror. She kept her focus out the window. They must have held a lot of hate for Romans. They may have seen deaths of family members and loved ones during the war, possibly. Then again, I never really heard about the war that much. Maybe a few people who gossiped about it during my stay at camp. That's how I found out that the campers in purple were Roman. Daisy and Alex, though, may have saw them as enemies in disguise. They had no trust for them whatsoever. I don't blame them, I'd be the same way. But I don't remember anything from my life. So I wouldn't be able to really be able to compare to them. The car engine roared to life and we were off to our destination. The Empire State Building, where ever that was.
The car ride wasn't as quiet as I thought it would be. The boys kept talking and laughing, which made Daisy really furious. She would mumble to herself every once in a while. Occasionally making faces to the boy in purple, Jason. I found out his name during one of their conversations. He even explained how he got his scar to me. Well, Percy told me. It's pretty interesting to know that someone actually tried to eat a stapler. I was pretty surprised about all their adventures and how they met. I never knew being a demigod was so... Difficult? Alex sighed and give Daisy a "behave-or-I-will-slap-you" look. Daisy didn't take it as a threat, but it did make her stop doing the faces at Jason. The downside was that she was now throwing things at Alex. He amazingly deflected all the objects she would throw. I got up to sit next to Alex I wanted to hear some of his stories. But I wasn't spared by Daisy's tantrum. I got hit by what seemed to be horseshoes. How she found them, I wouldn't know. I glared at her when they hit my head. She instantly stopped and pouted like a little kid. She looked out the window trying to avoid a fight.
Alex and I sighed in unison. "What's wrong with her?" I whispered to Alex. I knew I was touching a horrible subject but I wanted to know them both. I wanted to know more about their conflict with the Romans. "Did something happen between you two and the Romans?" Alex nodded with not that much enthusiasm as he did when he was deflecting the incoming obstacles. What I saw was pain in his eyes. Maybe even some tears coming in. It must have been really bad if it was going to make a boy cry. Well, then again I do have a brother who did cry for someone. So maybe boys do cry more often than they lead on.
"Daisy had a brother." Alex spoke with a muffled tone. I became rally confused with what he had just said.
"Doesn't she still have brothers?" I replied. Alex took a while to think about it but then he shook his head.
"A brother from her mortal mother. She had two demigod children." Alex smiled a bit, realizing his mistake. He was about to explain but then the van stopped abruptly. Making the seat belt tighten around my chest. Nice to know I would be safe and sound if anything were to happen on a car ride.
"We are here." Jason turns and smiled, which gave me a better look at the scar on his lip. It made me chuckle a bit remembering how he got it. Percy was the first to get off. He examined our surroundings just to make sure we weren't being followed. He really knows how to behave during a quest, mission, whatever this was. We probably wouldn't have checked and just gotten ourselves killed. Once he saw the cost was clear he helped us off and Daisy blushed when he smiled at her. I didn't take his hand when he offered it. I was still mad at how he is playing my brother and Annabeth. I gave him a death glare instead. He smiled awkwardly.
"Have I offended you?" He asked politely, in a kind of manner he seems to be quite ordinary. Making me a bit more harder to be mean to him. Luckily I was pretty tough to with stand his gentleman-like manner. I stayed quiet near him, which wasn't good for this quest. Communication was the key to success.
We watched the van drive off. It was a pretty fun sight. Seeing something so big become so small in the distance.
"Well then. Where to?" Percy asked. Which made everyone look at me. My face got red in an instant. I wasn't anticipating for this. I wasn't good at being a leader or being the center of attention. I just shrugged until we heard a loud siren wailing in the distance. This was my perfect chance to get away from all the attention I was suddenly receiving.
"How about there?" I pointed to the direction of the siren. It made perfect sense to go in a direction where a loud, out of place sound was coming from. Well, in my opinion it seemed pretty out of place and kinda like a sign. I felt we had to go there too.
