Ch. 12

Alex was eating pineapple slices when I saw him. He must have had one of his siblings bring him some, since we weren’t going to get lunch. He was a really messy eater since half of it was on his face and shirt. He didn’t seem to mind it, but Daisy was obviously bothered.

"You're such a messy kid!" Daisy scowled at him and growled. I laughed at their friendship. He stuck his tongue out at her then continued to eat. "So what did the 'ghost king'-“ she made air quotes “-say?" She didn’t seem very fond of my brother, but I didn’t let that bother me. She was my friend.

“He gave me a backpack with some supplies." I gestured the backpack that was hanging off one of my shoulders. It was very light for all the stuff he had put in.

"Good. We will need more supplies." She grinned then she began to blush. I noticed her eyes were staring behind me. I didn't have to turn to know who was there. All I had to do was smell.

'The ocean.'

"So, are you guys ready?" Percy’s voice was behind me. I turned and saw him holding a small backpack. Alex glared at Percy while Daisy completely went goo-goo-gaga over him. She played with her braid.

"Yes. I packed you a lunch." She handed him a small bag that she was holding. He took it and gave her a smile with kindness.

"Thanks." He pats her head and she looked like she was going to faint at any moment. He looked at me, I darted my eyes to the floor to avoid eye contact. I didn’t want to see him after what I had just seen with my brother. "Are you prepared?" He asked me.

I only nodded in reply. I could swear that I could still hear Nico crying in the distance. A blonde girl with grey eyes marched towards us. Daisy gulped, her face went from red to white. Alex pulled Daisy away from Percy.

The blonde glared at our small group, especially at me. I returned the glare because I felt obligate too. I will treat people the way they treat me. Her hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail. Daisy gave me a gesture that said I had to get out of the way. But I ignored it. The girl walked past me but that didn't stop her from continuing to glare at me. I continued to glare at her right back.

‘What’s this chick’s problem?!’ I heard myself growl in my mind.

"Percy! You never told me you were leaving." The girl wraps her arm around Percy's shoulders. She gave him a soft yet squeaky voice. He smiled awkwardly at me. It seemed like he didn’t want to be around her. Much less hug her back.

"Sorry, wise girl. I didn't want you to worry." He looks at her eyes and they seemed to be fighting back something. "It's only a simple quest with these younglings." He nodded at us and gave us a big smile. The girl obviously didn’t didn't buy it.

"You better come back safe, seaweed brain." She kissed his lips and my eyes grew wide. She saw me staring in shock. "What? Can't I kiss my boyfriend?" She asked a bit rudely. I shrugged awkwardly then realized what she said.

"Wait. You're Annabeth?" I stared at her in horror. She must have detected the fear in my face. She smiled at me as if she had won something that I wanted.

"Yes. I'm Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena.” She paused for a bit and then smirked. “And Percy Jackson's girlfriend." She said with a rude tone. She acted as if I was hitting on Percy. The thing is, she was completely wrong. I wasn’t the one who was hitting on Percy it was my brother. And he wasn’t hitting on him; it was Percy who cheated on her. I began to hate this girl, not just because of her attitude, but because she was the one who made my brother miserable in a way. Percy too, he was leading on my brother.

I continued to glare at Annabeth. I had suddenly convinced myself that she was an enemy. She was one of the reasons why Nico was miserable. She had Percy, and Percy had her. It wasn’t fair! My brother isn’t a toy that Percy could play with. I felt my anger grow by the seconds. I wanted Nico to be happy. I wanted him to have Percy for himself. I wanted Annabeth out of the way. Suddenly, she collapsed. She began to choke. She grabbed at her throat as if someone was choking her. She was coughing for air. I panicked at the sight. I didn’t know what was going on. Percy rushed to her side and tried to help her.

“Annabeth?” He was shaking her. During my panic I saw that she relaxed a bit. I realized I was doing this to her, I had to let go of my anger. I tried to think happy thoughts but Percy was panicking. He looked at me and pleaded for me to stop. He must have known that I was doing this. “Please! She hasn’t done anything wrong!” Tears formed in his eyes. Alex rushed to my side and grabbed onto my arm.

"Michelle. It's ok!” Alex was near my face. He gave off a scared expression. He was truly worried about me and Annabeth. “Please, stop. Whatever she has done to you, just ignore it! I’m here for you!" My mind went blank. I felt my anger wash off. Instantly Annabeth felt better. She stopped choking, now she was only trying to catch her breath.

"Daughter of Hades.” She began to speak. “Do not do that again." She glared at me and rubbed her neck. I saw red marks on her neck. I realized I had done that to her without knowing it. "I don't see why you hate me. Unless that kid told you bad things." She was talking about my brother. She had disrespected my brother. I felt myself get angry again and Alex must have known too because he held onto me. "You better take care of my boyfriend." She was furious at me. I kind of feared her but my anger for her was stronger. I had to make sure I did nothing bad to her again. I don’t know if next time she will recover from it.

"Ok, that's enough wise girl." Percy kissed her cheek that almost made me barf. He didn't seem to mean it though, which gave me a bit of hope for him and my brother.

'That kiss was a cover up.' I told myself.

He looked at me while Annabeth walked away. "Do you have a weapon?" He instantly asked, he didn’t want to push what had just happened. I shook my head and he tossed me pen. "Just click it and it will become a sword. My brother Tyson made it. It's supposed to be like mine, but mine has a cap." He showed me his pen and took off the cap. It instantly grew into a sword. He smiled at me. "I tried giving it to Nico. But he doesn't like celestial bronze." Percy seemed to get bothered by the rejection. So I accepted the gift and we picked up our stuff. "Well I hope you are ready." He looked at us. "According to the prophecy, one of us will go down a dark path?" He looked at me and I nodded. He smiled and looked at Daisy.

Daisy began to blush again. She didn’t seem to be bothered by what had happened. She actually seemed happy that it did happen. She flashed me a huge smile and looked towards the tree.

"Well let's go." We began to walk up the hill towards the Golden Fleece. Or as Percy called it, Thalia’s Tree.
