Ch. 11
I explained to Alex, and a few eavesdropping girls, about what I just saw. How Jeremy’s appearance had changed right before my eyes. One of the girls was very interested in what I was saying. She seemed to have known what I was talking about, because soon her eyes grew wide once I stopped talking.
"I've heard about that before!" She blurted out instantly and then covered her mouth as soon as she finished her statement. I looked at her and I must have given her a weird face because she seemed to get hurt. She nervously played with her shirt. "Sorry. I didn't mean to overhear your conversation.” She looked down in shame. Apollo children weren’t famous for eavesdropping, Aphrodite kids were. “I just heard something interesting about your story. My friend, from the Hermes cabin, had that happen to him." Her face seemed to get a bit red which indicated that it was more than a "friend". "The ghost king had told me about that too...” She lifted up her head and gave a faint smile. “What did he call it?" She looked at one of her sisters for help. "Contagion rain?"
"Reincarnation." The sister that she looked at answered. She seemed to be older than the girl. She seems to be fifteen and the other one was only twelve at most. She spoke with a monotonous tone. "It means rebirth."
"Yeah! That word! Maybe Jeremy was your brother!" The younger one said. She was extremely happy but then her expression changed into complete confusion. "Wait, but Jeremy is nineteen. And you are how old?" She looked at me for an answer. Her light blue eyes were begging for answers. She was very interested in this conversation that I had realized.
"Seventeen." I answered hopeful.
The little girl seemed to be disappointed with my answer. She only sighed and looked at her older sister. "I guess it's not rain contagion."
"Reincarnation." Her sister corrects her again, with the same tone.
And with that, the conversation ended. We all sat there in silence. Alex seemed to be the most awkward one there because he avoided eye contact with me. I also felt awkward.
After twenty minutes of silence. Daisy walked towards us. She had a medic bag full with supplies, and a new quiver with a dozen or more arrows. She seemed to have gotten a shower too because her hair was wet and she smelled like lavender mixed with apples. She didn’t speak, but she at least smiled at us.
"Gifts from Jeremy?" Alex noted the new things she had.
Daisy nodded at him. "We need to go prepared, we don’t know what we are going up against.” She looked around the room and then at me. “Now all we need is the fourth person." A few girls’ and boys' eyes lit up in excitement when she said that. Soon, begging and whining ambushed us. All of them wanted to go with us. Even the fifteen-year-old girl with the monotonous tone wanted to go. "No." Daisy shot them all down with a glare. She placed her hand on her chin, and began to think. "We need someone who is good with water."
Everyone suddenly stopped begging. They started to whisper and some even began to giggle.
“Do you know anyone?” I asked the crowd. They all looked at me with eyes full of excitement. Surprisingly Daisy had that same look in her eyes too.
"Percy." They all said with one breath.
