Ch. 7
That night for dinner, I sat alone at my dinner table. They explained to me that we had to sit at a table depending on our godly parent. I was the only child of hades at the moment. I kinda hoped that Nico would come to keep me company. Luckily the food was good. I had a few slices of pizza and Dr. Pepper. I loved the enchanted cups that would instantly fill itself up with whatever you wanted. I was about to start eating when I saw other campers burn a portion of their food and pray to their godly parent. I realized I have to do the same, so I did.
'Enjoy the meal, father.' I silently prayed. It was a bit awkward since I couldn't remember anything yet here I was. Praying to my godly parent. What if he didn't even remember me, much less, know me.
When I sat back down at my table, I wasn't alone.
"Hey." Nico calmly said while he picked a few seeds from a pomegranate. I instanlty felt obligated to offer him a pizza slice, but he rejected it. "I'm not much of a pizza fan." He mumbled as he glanced at the Poseidon table. I followed his gaze and saw him staring at Percy Jackson.
"Why do you hate him?" I blurted out. I regretted the words once they came out. 'Man! Why must I be so nosy?!' I heard myself say in my mind.
Nico panics at the question and almost drops his pomegranate. "I-I don't hate him." Nico calmed down and growled a bit. "Sorry. I'm not going to answer that."
I sighed and didn't push the subject. "Why are you here? Don't you travel a lot?" I changed the subject instantly so there wouldn't be tension between us. He was clearly gratified that I changed the subject to something he felt like talking about.
"Well I'm here because dad sent me here to stay at camp. He doesn't want me wandering off and getting into trouble." He looks at my slice of pizza.
I chuckled a bit due to his reply. He made it seem like he was such a troublemaker. But he really didn't seem like one. "Take it." I pass the plate to him and he rejects it once more but I glared at him and shove it even closer to him. "You have to eat it."
"Fine." He takes a bite. Instantly his face is full of disgust. "Its lacking something." He looks around and then looked down at his pomegranate. He takes off a few it's seeds and placed them on the pizza. He took another bite, a bit hesitantly, but this time he seemed more satisfied. "Better."
"Dad sent you?" I ask and Nico nods in reply. "Is there another reason why?" I knew it was to keep an eye on me.
He hesitates and then shakes his head. "No."
Once dinner was over, we walked towards the amphitheater for a camp sing along. I was happy to see Alex was there so I sat next to him. He seemed completely fine now. Jeremy must have made him feel better instantly. Nico sat next to me. It wasn't awkward since Alex and Nico knew each other so they started to talk about the hellhound attack.
I looked at the other campers and saw Daisy. I waved at her. She smiled at me and returned the wave back. I noticed she was talking to Percy. I looked over my shoulders to look at Nico. He was glaring at Percy but when Percy looked over his own shoulder to look in our direction, Nico looked away.
"Is he coming?" Nico mumbles. I continue to look at Percy and I see that he pats Daisy and walks toward us.
"Yeah..." I cautiously say out of the corner of my mouth. Hoping Percy wouldn't notice that I was talking to Nico. Nico growled a bit in his throat. This startled Alex, since he has now gained a phobia of hellhounds other than Mrs. O'leary.
Percy was right in front of me and smiled. "Hey Michelle, Alex, and Nico." When he said Nico it sounded a bit harsh. Nico's eyes darted to the floor to avoid eye contact with him.
"Percy." Nico growls again.
Percy's face turned from normal to concern. "Nico, I need to talk to you." Percy clears his throat. "Do you think you can meet me by the pier?" I tried not to eavesdrop on their conversation, but curiosity hit me.
"I'll see if I can." Nico continued to grumble.
Percy's face lightend up a bit. "Thanks." He pats Nico's back. "You have a great big brother." Percy nodded at me and walks away. He left a small scent of ocean behind.
I wondered if the boy ever took showers, and if so, did he shower in the ocean?
After the singing, Alex had help from his cabin mates to get to his cabin. He still had a tiny bit trouble walking. Luckily it wasn't someting really bad. At least he didn't need crutches. Before he left, he told me goodnight. He was thankful that I helped him too. I gave him a friendly smile that meant "You're welcome".
I headed toward my cabin until I saw Nico sneaking around. I did the worst possible thing that I could think of.
I followed him into the woods.
