Christine's pov
It's been hours since my dad left. It was almost 10:00pm. Jace and his mom were still here, but ow as getting worried. "Don't worry, he's probably just clearing his head." They said. They were wrong. About an hour later the home phone rang. "I'll get it!" I called and picked up the phone.
Convo c=Christine h=hospital
C hello?
H hello is this the daughter of Michael valentine?
C it is
H I'm sorry to tell you but your dad was at the pier and he must have slipped and he fell into the water and hit his head on the rocks. He drowned while he was unconscious. He's gone. I'm sorry.
End of convo
I dropped the phone. I crumpled to the floor and started to cry my eyes out. It took a while for jace to get what happened because all I could say was things like. "Gone! Dead! My fault!" I cried and cried. Jace hugged me and mrs. Norman tried to get me to calm down. When I finally stopped crying I just sat there. Mrs. Norman soon left to go to the hospital to sort out things. Jace got up to leave because it was well after midnight. "Jace wait!" I grabbed his arm and he turned around. "Please don't leave me alone. I just can't be alone tonight." He nodded in understanding. He found a blanket and put it over me while I lay in the couch motionless. Speechless. Both of my parents are dead and it was all my fault. If I hadn't upset him he would have never gone to the pier to clear his head and he never would have slipped. Just like if I had gone to ballet I wouldn't have been in the house for the fire.
