Avi's Point of View
"It's Eric." He answered, rubbing the back of his neck. Right as he said it, Kirstie's heart monitor started to speed up again.
I lost eye contact with the man in front of me to see Kirstie looking right at me.
“Holy Sh—“I gasped. I know, it was not the time nor place but I wasn’t expecting her to be!
She took hold of my hand and was shaking and it seemed as if she was trying to mouth something to me.
“NURSE!” I called. She continued to try to form words but was unable to get through to me. “GOD DAMMIT! NURSE!!” I cursed. After a few seconds, a black man in a white robe and scrubs came and injected some medicine into her arm. Her eyes rolled back and she went back to sleep.
I felt her grip get weaker until it was just resting on my hand. Tears filled my eyes knowing the state she was in and knowing that I could do nothing.
“She might lose some memory of what just happened. But this will make it easier for her to sleep.” He said as he lifted her eye lids and shining a flashlight into each one.
“What the hell did you just giver her?!” I yelled. Whatever it was, I didn’t like it. Not if it made her live in her nightmares even longer.
He gave me a look that showed he understood what I was going through.
“I’m sorry, it’s just she’s been having bad dreams and…” I apologized.
“No need to worry! She will just be in a calm state of mind. No dreams. No noises. Just darkness. Most people get devastated when they hear this but I guess for you its good news,” he reassured. I thanked him and apologized once more for my actions.
He left, leaving Eric and me in the room.
“What kind of dreams?” Eric asked, breaking the perfect silence in the room.
“What?” I asked back.
“What kind of dreams is she having?” His eyes were cold and larger from the last time I looked at him.
He didn’t even blink! This guy was crazy for sure.
“I’m sorry, it’s just I’m a therapist who specializes in anxiety and this sort of thing.” His stare went back to normal and he started to blink again.
“Oh! You scared me for a minute!” I sighed in relief.
“Oh! Sorry! I didn’t mean to come off like that!” he laughed, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking at the floor.
“Well, I’m not sure what kind of dreams. I just know it’s causing her to get violent in her sleep…” I answered. ‘Why am I telling him this?’ I thought.
“How violent?” he asked, his eyes going back to psycho, blinking-is-for-the-weak doctor.
“Well, she just thrashes and punches at air.” I lied.
“Hmm…. I think I may be able to help with that!” He smiled as he pulled a card from his coat. “The sessions will be free! Just give me a call if she wakes up! Er… I mean WHEN she wakes up.”
“Thank you… I will call you if she agrees.” I informed him. We shook hands and he left the room.
‘What’s wrong with that guy?’ I thought. ‘Never mind, Kirstie needs you right now…’
I sat back down and held her hand in mine, drawing little circles on her knuckles, kissing them every so often.
“Please…” I begged, “Please wake up…”
Last one tonight! I'll post more tomorrow! Love you guys :-)
