Chapter 9

The rest of my sleep was minimal. I was tossing and turning in and out of consciousness till morning. I did not know whether my unrest was because of the nightmare I had a few hours previous or the idea that Armin may know the individual that controlled the Female Titan.

Whatever it was, it kept me from having a good rest.

It was early in the morning when I decided to get out of bed, unable to fall back asleep.

I quickly got ready for the day, slipping on my uniform and tying my hair up with a cream-coloured ribbon in order to keep the hair out of my face. I looked in my handheld mirror at my exhausted expression. The dark circles under my eyes were more prominent than they had been the previous day and small freckles began to dot my nose from my time spent under the sun.

I set the mirror face down back on my dresser, no longer interested in looking at my tired face.

I headed outside my room, the barracks beginning to stir awake as I passed by the various rooms. Outside the windows I passed, the dawn sky filled with a sunrise of red and orange. I made my way towards the mess hall and nodded good morning to those various Scouts I passed by.

Entering the mess hall, I looked around at the tables steadily being filled with the Survey Corps members keen on getting breakfast. Through the open door of the kitchens, I could see the cooks busily preparing breakfast, stirring pots of porridge and brewing large kettles of tea.

I scanned the mess hall in an attempt to locate Armin. He was nowhere in sight, probably still fast asleep from his late-night of thinking about the identity of the Female Titan. I couldn't blame him; I'd still be asleep if I the ability to be too.

I walked over to the kitchen where they were serving tea and porridge and grabbed myself some. If I had to wait, I might as well eat. I sat down at a table by myself and began to eat, keeping an eye on the door for Armin.

He entered the mess hall 10 minutes later. Noticing me immediately, he walked over to my table.

"Good morning," he nervously smiled at me, anxiously wringing his hands.

"Hey, Armin, "I softly smiled at him in an attempt to ease his nerves. "You should grab a bite to eat before we go."

He shook his head, "I don't think I'm able to eat right now; it might just come back up."

I nodded. He was going to be reporting to Commander Erwin so it was understandable. Furthermore, he would be telling him that someone he considered a comrade could be the Female Titan.

I'd be nervous too.

"Well, I'm finished, so shall we?" I asked as I cleaned up my plate and took the last sip of my tea, not wanting to waste any.

"Yeah, I think I'm ready," he said.

We walked out of the mess hall and into the direction of Commander Erwin's office.

"Did you tell any of your friends of your suspicion yet?" I asked as we walked along the hallways.

"No...not yet. I wanted to tell the Commander first; I'll tell them after."

I nodded in understanding.

"Although it's hard, you're doing the right thing. If this person is the Female Titan, the Commander needs to know," I said.

"I know," he looked intently at the ground in front of him, his brows furrowed.

I knocked on the door once arriving at Commander Erwin's office.
