Tom

I did not see anyone on the way back to my chambers. It was extremely quiet, just the way I liked it. It gave me plenty of time to think. And I had a lot to think about right now.

Who was it that the king was talking about in there? Surely it wasn't me. I'm not from here, so my soul mate can't be here. I don't even have one. I don't believe anyone has one, but the fools here like to believe that they are special, so they made up that they have soul mates.

I read all about it before I came here. Of course I made sure to do all of my research first. It wasn't very hard to find a book about it in the Hogwarts library.

The name of it was the History of Romar. Very original.

According to the book, it all started with a witch named Matilda Pinch. On her way back to her cottage, she spotted a young boy and a young girl. Between the ages of fifteen and eighteen, according to the book. As Matilda was walking by, she heard the girl sobbing.

"No, please. I don't love him, I love you, John! And I want to be with you, I don't care what my father says!" The girl had cried out.

"I know, darling. I know. But I will not let you be disowned by your family just for me. I want you to be happy, and be happy with your family." The boy said.

"But the only way I'll be happy is with you." Then the girl started to break down and cry, not being able to speak.

The boy just held her, whispering sweet things to her in her ear. Matilda, apparently being the nice witch that she was, just couldn't take the heartbroken scene. She walked up to the young couple and spoke to them. They were muggles, and didn't believe it when Matilda told them she was a witch. So she proved it to them. She took her wand out and made sparks fly. It didn't specify in the book exactly what spell she used, but I'm sure it doesn't really matter.

Anyways, Matilda told them that she knew of a way for them to be together. John and Rosalie, who was the young woman with him, found it hard to believe. Matilda promised them she knew of a way, and if they were there, at that same spot tomorrow, then she would show them just how she would do it.

When Matilda turned to leave, John asked her why she even wanted to help them. "Because I know what it's like to lose someone you love."

The book never said what or who she had lost. Or how she had lost them. I guess that wasn't so important either.

Anyways, on the next night, both John and Rosalie were at that same spot waiting for Matilda. Rosalie was very nervous, she did not exactly trust the witch. These were old times. And during these times witches were hanged or burned at the stake. Apparently Rosalie had tried to talk John out of it before they had gotten there.

"What if she's bad, John? What if she tries to hurt us? I knew we should have said something to someone about her and had her hanged-"

"Rosalie, stop! I do not believe she would try to harm us. Why would she do that? And what happened to last night? Don't you still want to be with me?" They had stopped walking at this point, John turning around to face her.

"Of course I do! I'm just worried she'll try to harm you. Or take you away from me." Rosalie had tears in her eyes at this point.

John hated it. He hated seeing her cry. He loved her more than anything and wanted to see her happy all the time, even if it wasn't with him.

"Fine, we can go back then and forget about this. You can go marry William and -"

"What? No! That's not what I want, John!" Rosalie cut in. "I want to be with you. I'm just scared." Rosalie's lip started to quiver, and John knew she was about to cry again. He took her in his arms and held her, that way he at least didn't have to see it. After a while she told him she was okay and they started walking again.
