The light shining through the window was what finally woke me up. Of course there would be a crack in the closed curtains, and the light directed straight at me.
I pulled Vanlanthierel closer and snuggled my face deeper in her neck, not wanting to get up yet.
I almost had a heart attack when Vanlanthierel sat straight up in the bed, looking alert. I sat up beside her and asked, "What is it?" I expected her to say she had a nightmare or something of the sort, but she didn't say anything. She jumped out of the bed and over to the window, peeking out through the curtains.
"Oh, goodness!" She said.
"What?" I asked, a little more than annoyed. She scared me half to death and now she wasn't in my reach.
"I have to go. Oh he's going to be angry!" She said and scurried to get her dress. She was about to go to the bathe room and change when I got out of the bed and took three long strides to her. I grabbed her by the elbow and brought her to a halt.
"Where are you going? And who will be angry?" I questioned.
"My father, we're supposed to go into the village today." She didn't wait for a response as she turned around and closed the bathe room door.
I was more than annoyed. The one time I actually had a plan where I could lay around and not worry about much of anything, this would happen. Well, I wasn't having it. I walked over to get a fresh suit out of the dresser. That's where I was when Vanlanthierel hurriedly walked out of the closet, dressed in her dress from last night. She didn't even look my way as she put my now folded shirt on the bottom of the bed and ran out of the room, shutting the door firmly behind her.
I stared in shock at the closed door. She left. Just like that, she was gone. She didn't even bother to say goodbye.
That was so odd for her. I knew that before, she would have never done that. She must still be angry with me. That annoyed me and I came to the conclusion that if I did not do something about this soon, I would never stop being annoyed the entire time that I stayed here.
I bathed as quickly as I possibly could and ran a comb through my hair. I did not spend much longer in my chambers. I needed to hurry and find the king before they left.
I walked out and into the hallway, making my way to the dining hall. I was hoping he would be there having breakfast.
The only person who happened to be in there when I walked in was an older woman. She must have been a maid for she was cleaning off the long table. When she heard me enter she turned and said, "Good morning, Mr. Riddle. Can I get you anything? Breakfast maybe?"
"Where is King Malthenniel?" I questioned.
"He should be in the throne room." She said. I looked at her for a moment, realizing that I had never been in that room before. The woman must have seen my confused expression because she said, "He does not go in there often. Only when he is mourning over her Majesty." She got a faraway look in her eyes, obviously thinking of her late queen.
I did not want to be around while she sulked so I quickly asked, "Where is the throne room?"
"Oh, yes of course. It is just down the hall. First room on the right."
I did not say anything, leaving the woman with her thoughts and made my way out of the room. It was probably very inconsiderate of me to go and interrupt the king while he was obviously not in a very good state, but I could not bring myself to care when all I could think of was not having Vanlanthierel leave, even just for a few hours.
