Tom

My heart was beating fast, and I was almost sure she could hear it. She was so close to me, closer than I believe we have ever been. We had moved to the bed, where she lay on her back and I leaning over her. We had yet stopped kissing. It was nice and slow, but deep. I didn't want to go too fast and possibly scare her away. And I'm not sure I could take it either.

Never in my life had I thought about kissing anyone, until I met this girl. Ever since I met her I haven't been able to think right. And I hated it. But I wasn't thinking about that now. I was focusing on her lips, her tongue, her taste. And the unknown feelings she was causing to stir up inside of me.

As usual, she was wearing a small dress. This one was a nude colour, and she looked just beautiful in it. Even though it was small, barely reaching mid thigh and thin straps to hold it over her cleavage, she still did not look provocative. She was too small, and far too innocent to ever look wrong in my eyes.

But now she was kissing me, she had asked to, so I guess now she wasn't so innocent.

My hand was cupping the side of her face, and I started to pull her closer. I wanted her as close as I could have her. I felt as if my mind was starting to fog, and all I wanted was the girl lying beside me. I moved until I was on top of her, straddling her. The kiss started to heat up, get faster. I rubbed my other hand up and down her side, slowly moving it closer and closer to her breast.

I thought my heart was beating fast earlier. But this was so much worse. When my hand made contact with her breast, she jumped under me and pushed me away with her hands on my chest.

"Tom," she said and looked up at me, her crystal blue eyes big and worried.

I quickly got up off of her and sat on the edge of the bed. I felt her sit up behind me and said, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go so fast."

Before I could give her a chance to say anything, I grabbed my night shirt and told her to go change into it. I took a deep breath as we both changed. Her in the bathe room, of course. I was quite embarrassed, again. She always knew how to make me feel embarrassed.

When she walked back in the room, it was awkward. Neither of us said anything as she got into bed, me right behind her. I didn't know just what I was doing. I didn't even put my arm around her. I just wasn't sure what to do. I felt her move until I knew she was facing towards me.

"Tom?" she whispered.

"Hm?"

"I-i, uhm. I wasn't rejecting you again. Or like you thought I was the first time. I just, I don't know." she managed to say in two breathes.

I could almost feel just how worried she was. I could definitely hear it.

"That's okay, darling." I said as I put my arm around her, tucking her into me.

I kissed her again and told her that she needed to get some rest.

Vanlanthirel was gone when I woke the next morning, which was strange. She was always still in a deep sleep by the time I left to go meet with her father. I looked over and found my night shirt lying nice and folded on the foot of the bed. I guess today she had decided to get up a little earlier.

I did not dwell on it long, I still had to bathe and get ready for the day.

She did not come in that night, which bothered me to no end. I had no clue, at all, as to why she did not show up. I was already lying in bed, for it was two hours past the normal time when she would come. Had she not liked what we were doing the night before? Of course she did, she had asked for it! But, maybe I had moved to fast. Maybe it was too much for her.

But then I thought of something else: what if she had met her soul mate? That seemed perfectly logical. Her father knew who he was, so maybe he had found him, sent someone to come get Vanlanthirel and now they were together tonight, just like we had been the night before?

Well, I just won't have that. What's mine, is mine. And I am not the sharing kind.

I got up off the bed and got the book. Sitting down on the couch before my fireplace, I opened it up to where my marker was. I would find out who her soul mate was, or who everyone believed he was, and I would kill him.

I must have dozed off as I was looking through the book, again, because the next thing I realized there was a frantic knock at the door. I got up quickly and looked at the time. It was late, or more like early morning. I heard the knock again, even more frantic than before. I made my way to my bedside table and grabbed my wand. I wasn't sure who was at my door so late.

I opened my door, prepared for everything but this. Vanlanthirel pushed past me as soon as I started to open it, not giving me time to do or say anything.

"Tom, you have to take it back, now. Father knows, and he's furious. He has his men checking the whole castle for it. Oh, you could be in so much trouble." she said in a rush, her voice full with worry.

"Vanlanthirel, calm down. What are you talking about?"

"The book, Tom! The Soul Mates book!" my face paled, "I saw that you had it this morning, and now father knows that it's missing!"

"Wait, you told on me?" I said, exasperated. I couldn't believe it.

"No, that's why I've avoided everyone all day. I'm not very good at keeping secrets. I don't know why you have it and how it could mean anything to you, and I don't want to. That would just be another secret for me to keep. But, you have to go and take it back, now, Tom!"

She looked over and saw where it was still on the couch, open. She went and grabbed it and did her best to shove me out the door. "Don't let anybody see you with it! And hurry, please!" She said and shut the door in my face. I looked up and down the corridor to find no one. But I could hear footsteps, and I knew it would be best if I hurried, like Vanlanthirel said. Just as I saw the figure of the first guard, I disappeared into a cloud of black smoke.

I reappeared in the library, which I came to find that they call it the Book Room, and startled the women who seemed to always be here.

"Here, take this back. Now. And I would hurry if I were you."

"Yes, I heard the king was looking for it. I'm glad you brought it back just in time." she said calmly. "I'll be sure to get this back. But, just out of curiosity, who was that you were looking for?"

"And I believe then that you never heard of curiosity killing the cat." She looked at me with a confused expression, stupid fool. All it did was irritate me. "It doesn't matter, I didn't find what I was looking for."

She looked down at the book for a minute and said, "I've looked through it before, maybe I could help."

"Oh, so you can tell me who the princess's soul mate is supposed to be?" I said sarcastically.

"Well, yes I can." When I looked at her incredibly she kept going. "Well, I liked this guy but, he seemed to like her. So I looked in here to see if they were soul mates or not. And thank goodness they weren't."

"Well, are you going to tell me or not?!" Now I was getting impatient. Now I was going to find out who I was going to kill.

"Tom Riddle. Tom Marvolo Riddle. I'd remember that name anywhere, its so strange."
