Vanlanthierel

"Father, I don't want to!"

"Vanlanthierel, this is enough. It is going too far. You cannot stay locked in the castle forever. You need to get out and get to know your people better." My father said.

He has been pushing me on this for weeks. To get to know my people better was just his excuse though. He really just wanted me to go and find a suitable husband.

The kingdom needed a new king, and soon.

The only problem was that I didn't want to. I just have not been in the mood to go out beyond the castle grounds.

To say it had to do with a certain somebody was an understatement.

"But I don't want to!" I whined.

He sighed loudly and walked over to where I was sitting on the windowsill. "Sweetheart, you already know what I am going to say. So why don't you just let me save my breath and go get ready? Go do your hair and put on a beautiful dress and say hello to your people."

"You only want me to come with you so you can browse around for someone that's willing to marry me." I snapped.

When he withdrew his hand from it's place on my shoulder, I already started to feel terrible. He didn't deserve that. "I'm sorry father. I didn't mean that. Can we just wait until tomorrow?" I said lowly and looked at my hands that were placed in my lap, my fingers dancing with one another.

He sighed again and said, "Alright. But I will not wait any longer. You will be ready tomorrow by noon and no later." He said with finality.

I didn't get a chance to reply because the huge double doors that lead to the dining room opened, one of the men from my fathers guard walking in quickly.

"I'm sorry to disturb you, your majesty. But we were just been informed that the gates have been opened." He said.

"What? By whom?" My father replied, concerned.

"I am not sure, sir. I came here right when I was informed. Some of the men are there now and should be taking control of things."

My father opened his mouth to reply, but did not get the chance to. Just then another man ran into the room. "Your majesty, Princess." He greeted and bowed. "There is just one man here. Mr. Riddle. He is just outside the castle."

I felt as if my heart had skipped a beat. I couldn't pay attention to the rest of the things going on in the room. I could make out that my father was giving out orders to have Tom escorted in as quickly as possible.

The last time I had seen Tom felt like so long ago, but I could remember it perfectly. I could remember my father telling me to not go to him anymore, and then he was gone. He never said goodbye, and I hadn't heard from him since. I thought I never would again.

I wasn't sure what I had done, but he obviously didn't seem too worried about me anymore. But now he was here.

I couldn't let myself think for a moment that he was here for me. No, he had to be here because he forgot something. Or needed my father's help.

I got up from the windowsill as I heard one of the men directing Tom to where we were at. I moved to hide halfway behind my father. I wasn't sure if I wanted to see Tom, since I would most likely just be ignored again. But I did know that I did not want to see him in the condition I was in. I needed to bathe and brush out my hair.

Tom walked in, wearing one of the suits that his kind seem to be fond of. His hair was neatly combed to the side as it always used to be and his hands were clasped behind his back. He looked neat and proper and made me shrink back behind my father even more.
