your words cut deep

~

beautiful

i thought

like a rose

~

but when i let you near

your touch felt sharp

stinging

like thorns

digging into my skin

and so i let myself bleed

even though in my heart

i knew

you were bad for me

dangerous

but i couldn't accept it

the heart wants what it wants

my gut knew

my mind knew

everyone knew

but i couldn't see it

blinded

by rose coloured glass

love feels sweet

and i thought you could be

when really

i couldn't sugar-coat

what was underneath

a rose by any other name would smell as sweet

but you smell toxic to me

the heart wants what it wants

and so i let it

and it destroyed me.
