The following morning I wake up early and sneak to the Bifrost. I knew Heimdall would not let me leave to visit Midgard however I was hoping he would at the very least inform me if he could see Bucky and if Bucky was waiting for me.
"I know you're hiding there, miss," Heimdall informs me without even turning to see me. "Do you truly believe that you can sneak your way past somebody who sees all? I knew you were headed here the moment you woke this morning."
"Heimdall I know you won't send me to
Midgard but can you answer a question for me? I just want to ask one simple question I swear it, then you'll never have to hear of my interest with Midgard ever again." I requested as I poked my head out from hiding. He nodded his head once. "Is he there? Is he waiting for me still? I know that I came to you later than when I would've left but I need to know if he's waiting for me.""Yes miss, he's been there for some time now. He has checked his watch quite often awaiting your arrival. Kept his eye on each corner to make sure he won't miss you." Heimdall described. "He has to leave now Y/n. He cannot be late for his departure. I'm sorry miss."
"It's quite alright Heimdall. Thank you for answering that for me." I smiled through my tears as I began to turn away.
"Miss," Heimdall stopped me. "Your Bucky does love you very much." He smiled at me.
"Thank you, Heimdall." I smiled back at him.
After that day I simply wasn't the same me. Nothing made me quite as happy as Bucky did. My father and I no longer had much communication other than official royal duties. Loki was often disappearing to find a way to Midgard but I never got my hopes up too high.
I looked at Bucky's photo in my locket every day but always had to conceal it quickly after so that my father would not notice. My mother has caught me many times staring at my locket or holding it in my hands but she knew my heart was broken and chose to not tell my father.
A few years pass and I begin to wonder what he's doing in life if he survived the war, perhaps moved on, and found a new love. I just wanted him to be happy in life, even if that meant without me. Heimdall would have all of the answers I seek and I know this. I did tell him I wasn't going to inquire about Midgard or Bucky any longer but I just needed reassurance of his happy life and his survival from the war.
"Heimdall my friend how are you?" I stalled at first out of fear for the answers to come.
"No games Miss Y/n." He spoke sternly. "What is it you seek?"
"I wish for more answers on James Barnes." I disclosed. "Nothing much I swear I just need a few more answers."
"I'm sorry. I cannot answer more questions about him. Your father instructed I do not to give you information about Midgard. That one answer was trouble enough." Heimdall declared.
"Please Heimdall. Just tell me if he is alive? Did he survive his war? Is he well?" I pleaded. Heimdall's head dropped. "Please give me an answer Heimdall I need to know he's living a happy life."
"Miss I'm very sorry I cannot give you the answers you seek." He began. "Even if I could give you these answers, I am certain they are not the ones you would wish to hear. I'm sorry little one."
My heart dropped. I truly would never hear of him again. He didn't directly say he was gone but he certainly hinted that at least something had happened to him.
I sat in the fields for the rest of the day, making flowers and trees sprout from the ground. Usually watching the flowers bloom would lift my spirits but nothing could cheer me up after that.
"Y/n?" I turned to see Thor. "What brings you out here? Alone?"
"Thor my heart yearns for him. It aches and pains in ways that can only be solved by my only true love." I explained to him as he sat beside me.
"Father worries for you." Thor began. "He's looking out for the best for you. He may not seem like it however he does mean well."
"If father meant well he would've trusted me! He would have known that I was able to handle myself and I was able to be the judge of my own safety!" I blurted as the branches on the trees around us grew rapidly. Thor watched them grow closer but remained calm. "He knew I was happy and he ripped it away from me. He took everything I lived away from me!"
"Midgard is not safe though sister. He was simply looking ou-"
"I was perfectly safe there!" I interrupted and branches stormed around us. "I was in love!"
"I understand you loved this James bu-" I interrupted him again
"BUCKY!" The branches grabbed my brother. I stood completely still and angry for a moment. Just glaring at my brother, who was completely calm being held in the air by the tree branches.
I then dropped to my knees and began sobbing, and the branches released him to the ground. Thor wasted no time after touching the ground and came towards me and wrapped himself around me.
"We will find your Bucky, Y/n. I swear it." Thor had always been serious about his promises but this one we both knew he couldn't keep.
