Chapter 7:

Saved by Two Chapter Seven:

"Hey." a soft voice says as i sulk on the couch with my bowl of cereal.

I look up and meet the green eyes of Avlon. She didnt talk to me all day yesterday so i thought i was going to have to start all over again. She didnt eat and she didnt come out of her room. When i knocked on the door she was in the corner again and wouldnt eve look at the door when i opened it.

I thought that i was finished and she wouldnt talk to me ever again. "Hey Angel are you hungry?" i ask about to get up and go make her a bowl of cereal but she holds out her hand.

Turning she leaves and i hear the cabinet and fridge open before she comes back with some cereal. She sits on the couch with me. She's not that close to me but i also notice shes not pressed up against the arms o i take that as a sign. "Today is going to be a great day. Would you like to go swimming?" i ask her.

She looks down at her cereal and mumbles "I dont know how."

"I could teach you?"

"Could you?" she asks in shock and then says "I mean do you have time?"

"I have tuns of time thats why i asked you. If you ever want to do anything all you have to do is ask."

"What do you wear?"

"May got you a bathing suit or you could wear shorts and a shirt." These last few days i have noticed she hasn't worn a ny of the clothes i bought her. She only wears my clothes. I smiles when i seen that but i want to know why she doesnt wear the stuff i bought her.

She nods and then looks att the television eating her cereal. Suddenly she looks over to me and i raise an eyebrow at her. "Their wont be anyone there will there?"

"No Mark will be working in the field and the other guys will be close to the barn. The pond is a few hundred feet away." Again she just nods before she gets engrossed in the television.

"Are you sure?" Avlon asks me for the thousandth time.

"Angel no one is out there. If they are ai already told them we were going swimming." I explain aging opening the door.

She steps out and off of the porch only to stop in her tracks. She drops to the ground and sits on the grass running her fingers through it. I watch amazed as the sun shines in her hair and she looks to me with a sparkle in her eyes. She looks back down and plucks a piece of grass from the earth. "What is this?" she asks looking at it closely.

Shocked i take a seat beside her. "It's called grass."

She nods. "Momma told me about grass. She said it grows from dirt thats in the earth. Where's the dirt?" she asks studying the ground.

Taking a big chunk of grass i pull and the dirt and root come with it. "This is the dirt." she looks at me and reaches for it with her hands i nod at her in encouragement and she takes it from me running her fingers along it.

She points at the sky and says "Where is the sun? Momma said it was fire in the sky."

I chuckle and point to the sun. "That yellow ball is the sun and your mom had it right. It is a big ball of fire." she looks directly at it and i put my hands over her eyes. "Don't look at i tit's harmful for your eyes."

"Oh." she says with a laugh. "Thats why they hurt?" I nod in agreement and she stands taking the grass and dirt with her. "I like the outside." she states as she walks along side of me taking everything in like a toddler.

"That's good because i like it to. We can come out tonight and sit in the grass so you can see the stars. Maybe we'll see a shooting star."

"Ohhh." she says with her delicate mouth forming into an o. "Yes. Momma told me those were pretty."

"They are." i say in agreement. She looks all around her as we walk to the lake. When we get close she runs ahead excitedly. "What is this?"

She gets down on her knees and looks at the delicate weed infront of her. "A dandelion. You pick it and make a wish before you blow the seeds away."

She picks it and closes her eyes before blowing on it softly. She opens her eyes and watches them go up into the sky. For a few minuets she just sits there mesmerized as she watches them float away. "Do you want to  swim now?" i ask after she doest move. I want her to experience everything but the seeds are gong now so i dont know what shes looking at.

She jumps like she forgot i was there. "I'm so sorry Avlon." i apologize when she turns and i see her frightened eyes.

Nodding me stands and crosses her arms over her chest protectively. "I'm tired." she says and i sigh because i ruined the moment. If i would have just watched her and kept quiet then she would still want to swim. "Are you sure? Do yo want to see the fish?"

In her quiet v oice she says "Tomorrow."

"Okay." Nodding i start back at the house and just think we got much farther today than we ever have.
