After the lanterns vanished from sight the girls headed back to the palace. The village was so silent it was slightly unsettling. "Where is everyone?"
"I don't know." Merida said as she tried to conceal a smile.
Walking up the stairs to the palace they heard faint voices and scuffling. Merida pulled open the doors, revealing that the room was filled with the whole town, and yelled "She said yes!"
Joy erupted from the crowd and confetti rained down. "You all knew?" Rapunzel was shell shocked.
Their parents stepped forward, Queen Primrose spoke first "About two weeks before your birthday Merida showed up at the castle. She told us she knew where the princess was and at first we didn't believe her but we let her in and had breakfast together and we talked, then she asked for our blessing to propose."
"And we couldn't ask for a better daughter in law." Her father smiled.
"Neither could we." Elinor said, grabbing Fergus' arm.
"Let's eat!" Fergus exclaimed.
As they all sat down to feast there was loud clanking and the sound of a falling pan. Three short, red haired boys were stuffing their mouths with pastries at the near by dessert table. "Boys!" Elinor whispered loudly. The boys looked up and smiled with full cheeks and waved their sticky hands at their sister.
Merida leaned over to Rapunzel as she waved back "The wee devils love sweets."
Rapunzel replied, "So do I!" and stuffed a small tart in her mouth, making the triplets smiled wider.
Hamish pops up next to Merida and whispers in her ear, "We like her."
She bent down and whispered back, "Me too."
Rapunzel smiled at Hamish and the triplets ran off, blushing and laughing, with their arms full of treats. "Attention!" The King stood and clanked a spoon on his glass. "Today we are gathered to celebrate two things. The return of the Princess, and her engagement to the wonderful Lady of DunBroch, Merida." The hall roared with cheers.
Primrose leaned over and whispered excitedly to Rapunzel, "I've made arrangements for your cousins Elsa and Ana to come to the wedding!"
"Ooh are they nice?"
"Yes, they're very sweet girls though Elsa may seem a bit distant at times."
"Oh. Okay. Mother, we should spend some time together tomorrow." She said with a toothy smile. Her mother nodded and they went on with the feast.
