"Layaan, what is he doing here, A class with him, im failing that's it! There is no way I can do well in this class! I'm dropping it!", her face was full of worry. She wasn't serious, she was an honor roll student she wasn't gonna let one hot teacher ruin that for her.

"Dina calm down boo, just calm down, let's hear was the man is gonna say before you jump to conclusions!"

As soon As I finished my sentence Mr.Parks began talking. Ohhhh la howla wala quta illa billah, why so handsome. Lower your gaze Layaan, lower it!!! I turned to an empty page in my notebook and began writing free Palestine in pretty handwriting to distract myself from Mr. Parks face.

"So this class is pretty full Mrs. Riggs is gonna have a rough time keeping all you seniors on track this year".

Did he say mea Riggs? So he's not teaching this class? Yasssssss! Alhamdulliah!

A girl from the other side of the class raised her hands, typical teen of this generation. Booty shorts, breasts sticking out, makeup horribly done... "Umm so you're not teaching this class", she asked so flirtatiously...like calm yo self girl, you only 17, he ain't in to you, and he won't be. At least I hope, he could be a perv for all I know.

Mr.parks smile grew wider as he answered almost happy at the fact that he isn't teaching this class, "correct im just subbing for Mrs. Riggs she should be back tomorrow".

We did nothing in class, it was basically a free period, thank god we had Mr. Parks as a sub, he was so chill about everything. I walked up to ask Mr. Parks to ask to get if drink of water. As I walked up to the desk I found a book laying on the side, which he was reading. I focused my eyes on it...what...its a Quran.

"Hey Mr. Parks um may I um, im sorry if you feel like I'm getting in your business, but is that a Quran you're reading?"

What the falafel! How'd that come out! I just wanted to drink some water!

"Ah Haha, um no it's okay, I actually converted to Islam during the summer. I just recently learned the arabic alphabet so I'm trying to apply what've learned." His eyes sparkled as he was talking, he was definitely content with Islam, Alhamdullah, it's like a lost family member that finally came back home.

I can't wait to tell Dina, she's not gonna believe he was muslim! I made duaa that Allah some how would also make Him 12 years younger. I began laughing at the thought that I would even make duaa about something as silly as that.

I looked at the ground thinking of what to say to him, "Aww congrats! So that's why you've grown your beard?"

"Yes, how'd you know? Wait how'd you know this was a Quran and that muslims tend to grow beards?", his face dropped in confusion.

This always happened, no one ever assumes I'm muslim...

"Um we'll see Im actually a muslim, I j-just um, we'll see, I'm not ready to wear the hijab so people can't tell, but I will soon in shaa Allah", I faked a smile and walked over to my seat leaving Mr. Parks in confusion.

"Umm I don't think I'm thirsty anymore."

Who needs a drink of water, I need to tell Dina.

Dina quickly turned towards me, " what was that all about!"

I couldn't help but blurt out the great news, "soo um Allah answered part of our dua, he's a Muslim convert, he converted this summer! He's reading the Quran right now as we speak!"

Dina jumped from her seat all the way to where Mr. Parks was sitting. She looked directly in his eyes and congratulated him about becoming a Muslim. She ran back to her seat with the biggest smile on her face.

"Chill Dina he's still too old for you!", i tapped her lightly on the head.

But the whole incident with Mr. Parks got me thinking...

Mr. Parks just converted and there he is with a beard, and I was born a muslim and yet I still didn't wear the hijab..the women of the time of the Prophet (saw) when they heard the ayaat about hijab they tore fabric from their clothes to cover themselves, and here I am saying im not ready.

I mean I prayed, I fasted, I read Quran, I actually was religious I even did things that weren't obligatory, the hijab was something I just was not use to.

Everyone in my family wore it after marriage, everyone tells me I'm too young for it, I never gave it much thought. I just never had support in wearing it.

By the end of the year I was going to wear hijab, I just needed to know how and when.
