Lightning Strikes Twice

Chapter 15: Loyalty

I sit in room within the castle with my head buried in my arms on a table as I wait to the Queen to arrive. It had been a full day; a whole night without sleep because of stress and worry, since I had met my second brother and learned about Oro having split personalities. I had decided to come here on my own to tell the Queen and so Rue directed me to wait in here.

I hear the door open. There is a pause, a moment of silence that is then followed by a sigh. The footsteps come towards the table, I then hear the sounds of someone pulling out a chair to sit down.

"Hello Marsh."

The Queen's voice.

"How are you doing today?"

"Awful."

"Right.. Well let's get buisness out of the way first, what did you come to tell me?"

I manage to lift my head from my arms revealing my visibly tired face. I sit up straight and keep my hands on the table as I ready myself.

"I have a another brother under the name Nexus Klystis, he admitted to the recent killing of my father Syph. As well as admitting to being an accomplice to the killer referred to as Alio, who happens to be a split personality of a Oro Anisychia."

"I see. Well for now all I can do is issue an arrest for the both of-"

"With all due respect, Oro is innocent. He himself killed not a single person. Is there anything you could do?"

"I'm sorry Marsh. Unless you can find a way to quell this split personality, we're going to have to take both of them in."

"Right. Of course."

My arms go back on the table and my head sinks back into them. I feel a hand get placed on my own.

"With that out of the way, how are you holding up? I know this must be a lot to take in."

"I'm trying. It's not working well."

"I'm sorry. Can I ask you about your family? I thought all of them but yourself vanished?"

I lift my head a bit so I can respond clearly. I look at the Queen to see her looking visibly concerned.

"My brother came home one day with a sword and powers out of nowhere, then killed our mother. My father fled since then. My brother saved my friends and I when Luxia... yeah. And then when he went back to searching for my father, he was found dead. I told you the rest."

"How awful. I should put out an arrest for him too. Killing your parents, war heroes no less."

"Don't. You'll be sending people on a suicide mission. And they're not the heroes you think they are."

The Queen looks shocked when I say that. I sit up and lean back in my chair, crossing my arms.

"For some reason they wanted us two, to be born with powers or magic. Obviously we weren't. And so they beat us, regularly at that."

"Oh god.. I'm so sorry. I never would've guessed.."

"Its fine, it's all in the past now."
