A week or so had passed since the battle in New York, but the press coverage was non-stop. Half the world loved the avengers, while the other half didn't. But since they ran through SHIELD, there was nothing anyone one could do to stop them.

Rose and Steve finished packing up the last few boxes in Rose's New York apartment. After the fighting, they both decided a new location would be good. When a position for Rose popped up at the Triskelion in DC, it seemed like a perfect fit. Plus, the Fitz-Simmons duo was already there and had completed the chip for Rose's mind.

Natasha leaned on the door to Rose's room, watching as Rose finished her packing.

"I'm gonna miss you Blondie," Natasha called over to her friend, smiling at her. Rose rushed over, sweeping her friend into a hug.

"Hey now, you're the one leaving me with grandpa over there," Rose smirks. Steve offered to share a place with Rose, at least until Natasha was back from her mission to Berlin. They all felt more comfortable with her having an extra set of eyes post-surgery.

"It's a two-week trip, I'll be back with you in DC before you know it," laughs Nat.

"I know," responds Rose, before turning somber, "Thank you for everything, Red. These past few years I've been quite literally losing my mind. But you have always been the one to bring me back to reality. So yes it's only two weeks, but it's gonna be shit without you."
Natasha couldn't find the words to respond, and just gave her friend another hug. Yes, Clint had saved Natasha from herself all those years ago; but Rose had given her a reason to live. Not many people had put their undying trust in the assassin when she joined SHIELD, but Rose didn't care about her past. They had become family at this point.

Steve watched the two interact and was glad that Natasha had been there for Rose. The girls in front of him would be lost without each other it seemed. Natasha has turned to see Steve, giving him a soft smile and a nod, which the soldier returned.

"Now that you ruined my makeup," laughs Nat, finally releasing Rose, "I will have to come back and kick your butt for it."
"That's fine, just means you're coming back," teases Rose. Steve had loaded up the rest of the boxes in the moving van while the girls chatted, not that he minded. Rose let go of her friend, to allow Steve to give her a side hug. However, Steve was surprised when the redhead pulled him into a full hug, causing a light blush to roll across his cheeks. This caused the girls to laugh, and his blush to deepen with each passing second. Natasha parted ways from the two, to allow them to climb onto Steve's motorcycle.

"You like her," teases Rose as she sets up behind Steve.

Steve doesn't respond and just chuckles as he starts the engine.

------- End of Part One----

A/N: Sorry this chapter was super short, I just needed a way to tie the storyline into the next part. Part Two will have a few time jumps throughout, but I'll make sure to include dates so there's no confusion!
