In invasive procedures like this, Rose was supposed to stay with Fury, but the issue of the flash drive changed it. Fury headed out like he normally would, a decoy on his person to pull whatever threat was out there towards him. Rose continued her day at the office, completing her normal Tuesday routine. Weekly meeting at ten, meeting with Banner at eleven-thirty, debriefs and training until two, and then lunch. Once it hit six, Rose was out the door like any other day. Except for today, she had to make it home.
Seeing as Steve had left for the day, Rose got a ride from Natasha, before telling her redheaded friend to have a good night. Natasha thought Rose was acting weird but chalked it up to the mission earlier that morning. Instead of using her front door, Rose climbed in through the window, turning on the record player once she was in. To no surprise, she saw a banged-up Nick Fury on the living room chair.
I'd hate to see the other guy Nick, laughs Rose, assuming the place was already bugged.
He walked away without a scratch sadly, responds Fury, Rose hearing the pain in his inner thoughts clearly.
Rose runs to the bathroom to get a first aid kit when she hears the window she had used to come in open again. Pulling a knife from her pocket, Rose calmly walks to the living room, jumping when she sees Steve acting the same as her, with his shield in hand.
"Hey Stevie, you're home late," laughs Rose, pocketing her knife so Steve can put the shield down. Behind her, Fury groans in pain, causing the two to look back at him. Rose runs back to the bathroom to get the first aid kit, but Fury waves her off when she tries to help. Steve stood, waiting for an explanation from the two.
"My wife kicked me out," groans Fury, shifting in the chair.
"Didn't know you were married," responds Steve coldly, leaning against the living room wall.
"Lot of things you don't know," whispers Rose, knowing the soldier could hear her with his capabilities.
"I know, that's the problem," answers Steve. He goes to turn on the light, but Rose fries the light switch with her powers so he can't.
"I'm sorry to bother you guys, but I had nowhere else to go," continues Fury. He holds up his phone, the words 'EARS EVERYWHERE... SHIELD COMPROMISED' written in the text.
"Who else knows about your wife?" asks Steve, perking up at the new information. Rose shook her head, letting him know that those in the room knew and that was it.
Before the conversation can carry on, shots ring out through the walls of the apartment, three landing in Fury's torso, one in Rose's arm. Falling back from the pain, Rose notices a glint of metal outside the window. Steve had grabbed Fury, dragging him to safety in the hallway, and was going back for Rose who pushed him away.
"I got eyes on the shooter, stay here until backup arrives," orders Rose, getting to her feet. She breaks the window as she jumps through, easily flying up to the roof the shooter was on. The shooter hadn't expected a quick recovery on her part, so he began to run. She runs after him, trying to keep up or at least get a description. She hears another window shatter, letting her know that Steve was in pursuit as well. The three meet up on a lower roof a few buildings over. As soon as he lands, Steve launches his shield at the shooter. Much to their surprise, the shooter turns and grabs the shield with his left metal arm before hurling it back at them. Rose had the chance during that period of time to knock him down with her powers, but she couldn't bring herself to do it, letting him get away. Steve recovered and ran to the edge the shooter disappeared over, but finding no trace of him.
"Are you okay? Why didn't you take him down?" asks Steve, running over to check Rose's arm.
"I... I recognized him," stammers Rose, confusion, and fear taking over her facial expressions.
