"Don't. Please, don't." Mel begged, her eyes locked on me, her eyebrows furrowed. I looked at her and gazed into her teary eyes. We stood a feet apart and stared at eachother when we realized that this was the last time for us to be standing this close, for us to hold hands, for us to touch eachother. "Don't go." Mel whispered and a tear rolled down her cheek.
I took a few steps towards her and enclosed the space between us. "Mel." I said as I held her small, soft hands in mine. "You know I love you. This is already very hard for me. Please don't make it any harder." I begged her.
"I . . . I can't live without you, Ryan." Mel said almost in a cry and wrapped her arms around me in a tight embrace. I wrapped my arms around her waist in return.
"We knew this would happen. I told you that I'll have to leave one day." I hugged her tighter, knowing that in a few hours, she'll be miles away from me.
I held her chin and made her look at me. She slowly looked up, her eyes were red and tears were continously flowing out of her eyes. I looked at her one last time, recalling the moment when I made imaginary patterns over her tiny little freckles, the moments when I kissed her eyelids whenever she was about to break, the moment when I stole a kiss from her when she least expected it. I will miss her. I leaned in and softly kissed Mel's lips. Her lips responded gracefully, every movement of our lips, our hands, our fingers were magical. I moved my hands from around her waist to her neck and slowly up. I could taste the salt in her tears, I could feel the moistness of her cheeks. I could sense her sadness.
"I have to go." I took a spontaneous step away from her but she caught me by the hand. I returned her grip and felt the coldness of the ring on her finger, the ring which I bought for her as the symbol of our love. "I love you, Mel but we knew the end would come fast. This is the end."
I turned around and started to walk away from her. Her strong grip wasn't enough to stop me so as I furthered away from her, I felt her hand slip from mine and suddenly the coolness from her ring disappeared. With each step away from her, Mel's cries diminished into still silence just as my depressed face changed to a sly look. I chuckled.
Girls, so easy to fool, to play with. Mel was by far the most emotional of all my exes, giving me the privilege to put less efforts to make her fall for me. All a guy needs to do is to say the right words, look sincere and maybe act romantic and bam! he's got himself a smoking hot girlfriend.
I took a taxi and went straight to my home to find Dad packing his stuff.
"Are you done with your packing Ryan?" Dad asked while he tried to shut his overly stuffed suitcase by sitting on it.
"Yeah, I'm done. I'll go and get it. By the way, you need my help with that?" I asked, pointing at his overflowing suitcase.
"No, I'm good." He said and he stood up slowly, in an attempt to cover up his funny act with a pokerface and a serious businessman pose.
I laughed silently and walked out of Dad's room, ran upstairs and entered my room. A dark blue suitcase stood beside my bed. I took my suitcase and just when I was about to leave my room, I turned around and registered the look of my bedroom in my mind. Eventhough there is nothing special about my room or this country, I'm still going to miss it. I'm going miss Denmark.
In less than half an hour, we left our home and took a taxi to the airport. Our flight had arrived early. I sat on the comfy seats of Cathay Pacific and we took off, soaring up, up and away. Now Denmark simply looked like a piece of green land, growing smaller and smaller after every minute. I looked away and closed my eyes. I'm going to Canada and I'm not even excited about it.
