"Jen, you would be tutoring Ryan."
Jen? I looked to my right and saw this girl who had shiny black hair. She was the girl whom I had met at the garden yesterday.
She stared back at me for a while and then her eyes widen in recognition. But then without a smile or any sort of acknowledgement, she turned her head away and looked back at Ms. Cameron.
"Is that alright with you, Ryan?" Ms. Cameron asked with a warm smile. I looked at her but forged a smile nonetheless.
I don't need a fucking tutor! I can go over all the stuff by myself and still get an A+. Surely, she did not read my report cards from my previous schools.
If Ms. Cameron had assigned any other student to tutor me, then I would have definitely said No! However, Ms. Cameron had assigned Jen and right now she is the one who I have decided to trap, so why not through tutorials?
"Yes." I replied. Ms. Cameron genuinely smiled back at me and handed me my schedule for this year and gave me a list of books that I needed to buy.
Lessons started and everyone went to their respective classrooms. It was a pretty boring day for me to be honest. I was all alone and had nobody with me to kill the time with, not that I wanted anyone's assistance.
The last bell of the day rang and almost everyone scooted out of the classroom immediately. I stood up and looked at where Jen's seat was, hoping her to be there so that I could start a conversation with her. Unfortunately her seat was empty, as well as her desk. Her bag wasn't even there. She was nowhere to be seen, again. How can she disappear so damn fast? Frustrated, I took my bag, hung it around my shoulder and started for the door when Ms. Cameron called my name.
"Ryan, how was your first day at school?" She asked while she inserted some papers in a blue, transparent file.
"It was great." I lied. The first day of school is always the same. No friends and pretty boring.
"Good to hear that. Tag along and I'll show you your locker." She said and I nodded obediently. She took the huge pile of files stuffed with worksheets in her arms. It seemed to me that the file could fall from her grip any moment so I offered to hold them and she gave half of the files to me. Mrs. Cameron walked out of the classroom, or should I say catwalked, and I followed her like I was her peasant.
"Do you know where you can buy your textbooks, Ryan?" She asked as we walked through the hallway. I tried to ignore the sudden glances taken at me.
"No." I replied after giving a smile to a girl who beamed at me.
"Oh. Then I will have to assign somebody to go with you. Oh! Here is your locker." She pointed to her left. I turned around and saw a tall cream coloured locker with a tiny padlock on the left side of it. In my previous schools, all my lockers had been small and usually grey in color, making it look dull and boring. The lockers in this school were by far the most colourful lockers I have even seen in my life.
"Jen." Mrs. Cameron said and I found myself instantly searching for her. Standing there, exactly opposite to my locker, was Jen with three girls, who were as attractive as Jen was. She looked up and walked toward Ms. Cameron.
"Yes, Mrs. Cameron?" She asked, without giving me a glance.
"Can you help Ryan? He needs to buy some textbooks but he has no idea where to buy them. He'd be grateful if you could go with him to the mall and help him out, am I right Ryan?" Ms. Cameron looked at me and I quickly nodded in response.
Jen's expressions changed, from obedient to blank. It looked like she didn't want to go. I thought she was about to reject Ms. Cameron.
"Sure. I'll go with him." She said, still not looking at me.
