I just stared blankly at the boy speaking to me. He waved a hand comically in front of my face, but I didn't want to respond. I'd already made a promise. I wasn't deserving of anything, and I wouldn't indulge in any new friendships or relationships. I deserved to be alone. People called Aether a ghost of my past, but I treated him as the person who I'd wronged so much that I probably should've been sent to hell.

"Ojouchan?" he asked, still trying to initiate a conversation with him. The teacher called him over in a heartbeat, probably to ask that he treat me sensitively. Whatever. As long as he doesn't bother to come near me. I waited for the classes to get over and lunch break to come so I could escape this place.

Childe POV:

As soon as the lunch bell rang, the beautiful blonde girl sitting beside me ran out at top speed. The teacher had informed me about her circumstances  and it just made me more intrigued about her. The girl called Lumine. Our regrets, our guilt and our pain weren't very different after all. The only thing different was that she still didn't have anyone to lean on.

"Lemme give you some great advice, newbie. Just stay away from that drama queen. She acts like she's all high and mighty and the only one suffering just 'cause her brother's gone. He was a nerd anyway and she didn't care for him that much either, lol. Just showing off." a boy came up to me and said. He was accompanied by a blue haired girl with her hair plaited on her forehead and amber eyes that were filled with anger and disgust as soon as Lumine's name was mentioned.

I just stood up from my seat and walked away, glaring at them as I went past. What would they know? I'd seen her crying all by herself during  class. The exact same situation and the exact same pain. I could understand her. She was being a jerk if she just shut off all her friends, but it was also to be expected if she had just recently lost her brother. Even if you didn't have a deep bond with your family, family is still family. Thats what he believed in anyway.

Lumine POV:

I ate a sandwich as I sat by myself on a bench a few blocks away from the courtyard, a place people rarely went to as most of them were assembled in the courtyard. I shivered as a cold breeze passed by my face.

"Sis, I made you a cake!" Aether smiled cheerfully.

"Ew, no way in hell I'm eating that pile of crap. Why didn't you just go buy me one?"

"Well, since today's your birthday, I wanted to do something special for you!"

"Just stop it alright. We both know you can't cook."

"Hehehe..."

"Don't joke with me right now, you know I'm stressed out because of my new boyfriend."

"Alright then..."

What an irresponsible sister. I was the worst sister, wasn't I? Just thinking of my own problems all the time. I didn't even accept his cake that day, the cake he had made for me because he loved me. And I just dragged my own problems there. I sometimes vented at him as though it was all his fault but he still consoled me. And in the end...

"Lumine. We need to talk, alright." the so called boyfriend of that time, Ethan, appeared in front of me, blue eyes icy and cold. He sat down beside me and spoke.

"First of all, sorry for all the mistakes that I made, alright? Yes, I went  out with another girl that day. Yeah, I completely ignored you all the time. Yeah, I lied to you that I loved you. Yeah, I was a bit terrible towards you. But I had my own circumstances alright?" he said. His hand had slowly made its way to my cheek and he cupped it. A warm, intense feeling rushed through me. He was truly the one I'd loved. Had I moved on? Probably not. Did I want to? Yes.

"Babe, you need to forgive me." his lips pressed against my hand softly. I violently jerked my hand away but he held it again. "You need to understand, sweetheart." he spoke sweetly.

"There's nothing left to me now. I'm not the same person you knew." I said, as monotonely as I could and whipped my face away. Ethan gritted his teeth.

"All because of that stupid lout who couldn't even do anything right for you in your life?" Ethan spat. I felt my anger rising. "I bought you expensive gifts, took you on the best dates and yet all you care about is your stupid brother who couldn't even get himself a f*cking girlfriend because of his average looks?" Ethan's face grew redder and he ran his fingers in an irritated manner through his blonde hair.

"Be careful about what you say about my brother." I said. He muttered a curse word at me and was about to speak more when another voice interrupted him.

"Don't you think thats enough rudeness to the lovely oujochan?" Childe spoke, a smile on his face. He put some sort of cup on the bench a few spots away from me and turned towards Ethan once more.

"And how's that your business, huh?" Ethan threw a punch on him, but Childe skilfully dodged it and kicked him in the stomach. Ethan dropped to the ground, gasping for air.

"Not even worth a sideshow." Childe chuckled as he glanced at Ethan on the ground. Ethan got up on his feet and tried to attack him again, but Childe just held his hand and pinned it to his back. He yelped in pain, "Let go, please!"

"Only if the ojouchan says so〜" Childe looked as if he was having fun as he threatened to break Ethan's arm.

"Just let go of him. Don't get in trouble and just don't waste your time on Ethan." I murmured and Childe immediately released Ethan, who sprinted away at top speed. Childe picked up the cup and sat beside me, sighing. I stood up and turned to leave in response to his actions.

"Ojouchan. No need to leave. Why don't you help me out? I am a newbie you know?" Childe pestered me. What was his problem?

"Either everyone forgot I existed or they forgot to tell you to stay away from me." I said in a harsh tone, but he was still smiling, not affected in the least bit. He stood up and pressed a warm cup to my face. I realised he'd brought it for me. "No neeー" I was cut off by his next words.

"Warm coffee for the lovely ojouchan." he grinned and as I walked ahead with the coffee cup in hand, he followed me with a smile plastered on his face.

Weird guy.
