“There are like 50 different people here who look like they could be warlocks” Izzy shouted over the blaring music.
She had reunited with Jace and Clary after searching for about 15 minutes. There were way too many people here and it all seemed a bit blurrier with the dancing. What were they supposed to do, guess who it was? Clary and Izzy eyed jace, waiting for his direction as he stared at something that seemed to be in this distance. He always did that when he was thinking.
“He’ll come to us”, Jace said with a sudden look of realization on his face
“What do you mean?” asked a confused Clary
“We didn’t want to stand out, but that’s exactly what we have to do. Think about it. The high warlock of brooklyn, the most powerful man in New York, is here. A few low rank warlocks spot four shadow hunters, who are they gonna tell?”
“Him”
“Exactly”
“Which means...” Izzy drawled, obviously wanting jace to get to the point.
“He already knows we’re here”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
One foot in front of the other, Alec had to mentally remind himself how to walk after staring into that warlock's eyes. He felt like he was having some sort of out of body experience. After just one glance he forgot how to conduct himself. The new plan was that he find Jace immediately. Jace was safe. Jace was familiar. Jace wasn’t some hot guy who gave Alec weird and confusing thoughts. But, where exactly was Jace.
Alec paused to scan the night club, panting as he turned in place. It had appeared that he had also forgotten how to breath. He couldn’t see anything. Alec decided to head back towards the entrance. But he would take the long way, around the crowd instead of straight through. The farther away he got from that warlock the emptier the club seemed to be. He stopped to look around once more as he was in the right corner of the front of the club, about 20 feet away from the entrance.
“Leaving so soon” an unfamiliar voice called out.
Alec froze in place, then slowly turned around.
Suddenly he was there. Standing just a few feet away but he felt so close at the same time. Now that the Warlock was in front of him, he could study him more closely. His eyes were normal all of a sudden, no longer golden but brown. His hair was dark and sat in a messy but sleek style on his head. He had eyeliner which made him look that much more piercing, and just a hint of a smile on his face.
“ I- I was just”
“Leaving” Magnus restated, taking a few steps closer to Alec.
A smirk playing in the corner of his mouth. He looked Alec in the eyes, obviously enjoying what he saw.
“Magnus Bane”, he waited for Alec to respond but it seemed like he was having trouble, “and you are”
“Alec, Alec Lightwood”
Magnus questioned his response but couldn’t quite put his finger on the fault.
“There’s more”
“Alexander”
“I thought so,” Magnus inched closer.
Alec could smell him now. He felt his presence, or aura, or whatever you want to call it. Magnus looked Alec in his hazel eyes and then raked his eyes down his body, as if scanning for perfection. His eyes stopped in his crotch area and opened a little wider, before staring back at Alec.
“Shadowhunter” Magnus thought aloud.
More of a statement than a question.
“How di-”
Before Alec could finish Magnus raised his hand, and with a woosh, Alec's stele appeared in his finger tips.
“You have the magic wand”
Magnus had seen it pointing out of his pocket just a few seconds ago. Alec smiled nervously mesmerized by his magic
“Shadowhunters and your toys. You people really bring these everywhere?”
Before Alec could respond Magnus reached his hand that held the stele toward one of his belt loops and inched it downwards until he reached his front pocket and began sliding it down. Magnus leaned in close, whispering in Alec's ear while sliding the stele the rest of the way in
“I have a wand just like this"It was taking everything in Alec to not simply fall apart, but he played it off well and sucked a deep breath in as he felt magnus words on his skin. Suddenly Magnus backs up a step, laughing a little.
“I’m kidding” he mused, winking at Alec.
Alec felt as if all the breath and oxygen had been taken out of him and replaced with something else. A want. He imagined what Magnus was like, beyond the magic. What he was like in other, more mind roaming, situations. But he brushed it off quickly and played into Magnus’ game. He was used to having to do that. No one could play off innocence like Alec.
“Funny” Alec quipped back.
Magnus cocked his head to the side, not expecting the response, but welcoming it even so.
“Can I get you a drink”
“I can’t”
“Why not. Don't tell me it's because of your little shadow hunters friends that have been running around here all night”
“How did you know”
Magnus lifted his shoulders as if trying to keep a secret. Like he had no idea how he got that information.
“We were looking for someone” Alec continued.
“Surprise. You found him.” Magnus exclaimed. “So where are they?"
“We’re right here” Jace interrupted loudly, bringing Alec, once again, crashing back down to earth. “We need your help”.
Magnus swung himself around moaning.
“ Help, help, help,” he continued, striding circles around the group, “You people always want something”.
Clary stepped in front of Magnus,
“Look we’ll do anything ““What about what I want?” Magnus rambled on, ignoring her.
“What do you want”
Magnus continued striding around and paused behind Izzy’s ear.
“Him” he declared, pointing directly towards Alec before his eyes turned gold. The shape of his irises all of a sudden cat-like.
“I'll take him”.
