It had been weeks since Alec and Magnus discovered the entrance to Valentine's building and plans for a Shadowhunter invasion were already underway. The main goal was to get to Valentine, capture him, and turn him over to the clave. Then they would disassemble his army of rogue Shadowhunter's one by one and have them stripped of their runes. It was one of the cruelest forms of punishment in the Shadow World, to have everything you've ever known taken away from you and then expected to live a normal life. But after all Valentine and his posse has put his family through Alec figured they deserved it.
He's spent every waking moment trying to figure out what they could do to actually go through those tunnels without raising suspicion. As far as he knows, Valentine still had the upper hand, which was dangerous. Even if they did go through those tunnels full force they would lose too many lives that way. As much as it didn't seem like it from the outside looking in, he actually cared about the people around him...in a sense.
Magnus would be coming to the institute today. There would be a meeting held on the plan of action for Valentine's base invasion and he was there to be the eyes and ears of all the warlocks in the city. It came in the job description of being the High Warlock of Brooklyn. A position that Alec had grown to learn that, although it seems like he doesn't take it seriously, Magnus actually loved.
They had learned a lot about each other in the past few weeks. And not just mundane things like favorite colors and animals. Intimate things. Alec was extremely aware of the fact that Magnus had been around for hundreds of years and been with hundreds of people. He was always worried about not being different enough from the others or not being good enough for Magnus. So instead of asking what hundreds of people might have asked before, Alec was determined to find out who Magnus really was. Behind the makeup and the glamour and the clothes. So many clothes. He wanted to know why Magnus never spoke about his parents, why he was banned from the entire country of Romania, what was inside the small box in the corner of his closet. And while he hadn't gotten the answers for those particular questions just yet, he hoped that one day he could.
Magnus and Alec had been so wrapped up in themselves they sometimes forgot that their relationship only exists in their reality. They had gotten used to sneaking around to see each other without suspicion. In between training and clients and missions. But it was different today because they would actively be in front of the very people they had been hiding from. There goes that feeling again. Alec didn't quite know how to describe it but he usually coped by squeezing his fist as tight as he could and yelling at the nearest person. Here comes Clary now.
"What do you want?" he spat before she even had a chance to open her mouth.
"Ok see, that's not fair you didn't even give me a chance that time"
"You've used up all your chances, answer my question"
"Have you seen Jace?"
"Not since he came crawling out of your room last night, no" Alec remarked, and it took everything in him not to crack a smile as Clary's mouth dropped open.
"You're boyfriend isn't as stealthy as he thinks"
"What were you doing roaming the halls so late?" Clary contested when she finally found the right words.
"Laundry" Alec replied blankly
"You're lying"
"Sure about that?"
Alec stared deep into her eyes as he said the words. Someone was going to crack and it wasn't going to be him.
"No" clary huffed out
"Thought so"
With that Alec walked to the front of the large meeting room hiding a smirk as he did. He couldn't tell if he was starting to feel okay with her overall presence or if his new found happiness was changing the way he felt about everyone. He didn't feel like focusing on how annoying Clary was when Magnus was there. Magnus. The thought of him calmed Alec and he let his fist loosen just a little behind his back. That's when he heard his mothers voice above the crowd of Shadowhunter's and Down World leaders that came flooding into the room.
