What do you mean ‘they’re here’” Alec demanded, trying to keep his composure, even though  he could feel his stress levels rising  with every word that fell off of Clary’s lips. That wasn’t unusual.

“I mean they think we have the cup so they're here to come get it”

Jace ran his hand through his silky blond hair, as if it would help bring ideas to mind. It was an impulsive thing, all four of them had one. Alec balls his hands into fists behind his back, Izzy plays with her bracelet that doubles as a whip, and Clary just talks and never stops.

“And why would they think that?” Alec continued his questioning, watching as Clary gave a quick glance to jace. Silently asking him if she could answer before Jace did it for her

“Because we do” Jace explained.

Alec squinted his eyes a little, shooting a confused look at Jace and wondering when exactly they had time to find the cup.

“Since when?” He seethed, trying to control his anger that was slowly bubbling over.

Ever since Clary arrived Jace had no problem doing everything without him, and it seemed the pattern was continuing.

“Last night. At  Luke’s station”

Jace paused for a moment. Just long enough to see the hint of betrayal on Alec’s face. He tried to hide it, but it was there. Jace continued,

“Clary was actually able to-”

“Since when do we not tell eachother about missions?"

Alec paused for a moment, waiting for a response.

"You could have been killed. Do you know how many circle members work at that station?” he continued.

“I can take care of myself Alec. I doubt we would’ve gotten your stamp of approval”

“And how are you so sure?” Alec felt insulted now, his responses laced with wrath.

“Because you never approve of any mission that involves Clary. Sorry if I didn’t feel like getting a lecture from you and the stick that’s shoved up your ass”

The words stung but Alec refused to let them affect him.

“I’ve done more than enough for Clary. I’ve broken rules that I’ve never even considered breaking for her. What else do you want from me?"

Jace rolled his tongue around his mouth, attempting to control himself.

"What this half Shadowhunter shows up one day, you fall in love with her in ten minutes, so you expect all of us to drop everything for her. You expect me to risk my life for her. She’s not my Parabatai, you are”

Jace’s mouth formed a straight line, his mind searching for things to say say.

“In ten minutes you traded our morals, our way of life, our relationship, for some mundane. Sorry that I’m having trouble adjusting to that”

“You didn’t even try,” Jace scoffed.

“So following orders from the clave makes me the bad guy. Great... I'm a shadowhunter, that's my job, it’s all I do. At least I’m doing it right” Alec pushed past him and walked toward the towel rack, throwing his towel in place.

Jace stood there for a moment but soon followed. Izzy and Clary had the sense not to move from their spots.

Jace placed himself in front of Alec, waiting for him to turn back around and throwing his towel on the rack at the same time.
