Alec felt his heart pounding as he stared at the tip of the finger that pointed towards him. He felt that he should probably speak, say something. He parted his lips but nothing came out.
Jace, Clary, and Izzy turned away from Magnus to face Alec with questioning faces, but Alec held no answers for them. He had just met the man.“You”, Magnus started as he strolled over to where Alec stood.
He stared at his lips for a moment, sucked in a deep breath, and then shifted to look into his eyes examining him for a moment.
“I could use a shadow hunter, I’m in a bit of trouble with some other downworlders. I need someone of your strength”
Jace intervened, “Look. Use me, I’m why were here”
Magnus turned his head with a hint of disgust, “I don’t want you”
“Well, you can’t have him” Jace assured.
“No?” Magnus cocked his head to the side.
"Fine... I was getting bored anyways"
He took one last glance at Alec before striding away. Within seconds he disappeared into the mindless crowd.
“Jace we needed him” Clary huffed, while pulling him by his arm, to face her.
“ We're not gonna sacrifice one of our own to get him,” he replied sharply before turning to Alec.
“And you. What the hell happened to you. Just standing there all confused, dude come on.”
“What did you want me to do?” Alec defended.
Jace didn’t respond immediately but felt like there was something off. He tried to read Alec’s face but got absolutely nothing.
“What did he say to you? Before we got here” Izzy blurted from behind the group.
Although Jace was his Parabatai, Izzy was his sister. She could read Alec like the palm of her hand because she saw what Jace was too small minded to see. Izzy knew that Alec had a crush on Jace, whether he would admit it to himself or not, just like she knew this warlock had obviously cast some sort of spell on Alec.
“Nothing”
Izzy scoffed, “Oh, so he just stood here with you saying nothing for the past five minutes”
“Alec please,” Clary spoke, stepping in front of him now, “I know I’m asking for a lot, but I’m begging you. You can take on a few downworlders, you know you can. Worst comes to worse, call us and we’ll find you”.
Jace pulled Clary aside, “Clary, I don’t know-”
“I’ll do it,” Alec interrupted.
For the past few minutes he had been debating in his mind whether or not he should follow the feeling coming from his gut. He wasn’t worried about the rogue downworlders. They were the least of it. He was worried about Magnus making him feel things that he's tried for a very long time to push down. Feelings in his penis to be precise.
Jace walked towards him with a look of reassurance.
“Are you sure about this, because I have a bad feeling”
“You feel that way about most things” Alec reminded him.
“Hey, I am nowhere near as bad as you”
They both chuckled, but Jace was the first to put back on his serious face.
“I’ll be fine” Alec promised while patting his shoulder and pushing past him.
He turned to look back at the group one last time before diving back into the crowd of downworlders. Jace was weary, Izzy smiled, Clary looked...Annoying.
“Here we go” He whispered to himself.
Alec pushed his way through to the crowd, trying to make his way back to the couch area where he had been earlier. He found the bubble of people again and forced his way in. Magnus wasn’t there. His place on the couch was taken by some other downworlder. He left the bubble and scanned the room. Turning in circles until he had no choice but to call out.“Magnus!”
He walked swiftly toward another crowd of people who seemed to be doing a little more than just dancing. He turned around quickly, clearly scarred by what he had seen.
“Magnus!” he called again, just to make sure he didn’t miss anything.
He didn’t hear a response, but instead he felt a hand on his shoulder. The rest of the body attached to the hand soon followed as Alec could feel someone pressed against him. He felt a breath on the nape of his neck, and words soon followed.
“Back so soon?”
It was Magnus. Alec hadn’t doubted that before, the voice was just confirmation. He felt as if the hairs on his entire body stood on end as Magnus reached his arm around Alec's body and rested it on his waist, turning him around to face him. Their faces only inches apart as Magnus lifted his hand from Alec's waist to his cheek. Studying his face once again he moved his thumb to Alec’s stealth rune on his neck before quickly removing his hand.
“I like your eyes,” Magnus stated out of nowhere.
“Th- Thank you, I-”
“Let’s play a game”
“O- Okay”
“It's a drinking game, we’d have to go to my apartment,” Magnus spoke while extending his hand and motioning his eyes towards it.
Alec reluctantly grabbed it. His hand was warm and seemed to fit into his perfectly. Magnus’ were just a little smaller and filled with rings. His nails painted a shiny black. It felt...good.
Magnus pulled him through the crowd and toward the entrance. They stepped out together unto the empty road and he let go of Alec's hand, leaving him with an incredibly empty feeling. Magnus took two steps forward before waving his arms and hands in mesmerizing motion. Suddenly, and quite magically, a portal appeared. Magnus stood with his back to the portal and stared at Alec, looking somewhat proud of what he’d produced.
The portal itself was loud. Louder than expected. It sounded like heavy wind and a mixture of noises.
“Do you trust me?” Magnus yelled over the clamor coming from the portal.
Alec didn’t know why, but he felt like he did.
“Yes.”
This time Magnus took both Alec’s hand and began walking backwards toward the portal.
“What about the rogue downworlders!” Alec yelled, remembering as they got closer to the portal’s edge.
Magnus smiled and moved his hand up to Alec's forearm as he was preparing himself to pull.
“That was a lie!” Magnus smirked and hauled them both in.
The portal disappeared.
