Alec entered the grand hall as if he were a health inspector for some low budget highschool. He steadily paced around the area making sure each decoration was in place. It wasn't really his job but Alec was the kind of person who always seemed to take over everything anyway to make sure it was perfect or well thought out.
The room screamed Elegance and grace with its sky high ceiling and cascading gold curtains around the glass windows. There was a huge table at the end filled with food for the celebration and smaller tables with chairs around theme everywhere for people to sit and converse while the Heads gave their homecoming speech.
Alec guessed that at some point in the night they would pull him, Jace, and Izzy aside to share intel on what they learned while at Idris. Although the three of them happened to be their children the head's knew that their kids were also the best and the brightest the New York institute had to offer .
It was one of the reasons why, as the oldest, Alec took it upon himself to be a natural leader of not only his family, but everyone in the institute. It was a title that he had no trouble assuming the second his parents left. But since then, things have pretty much gone downhill. He knew that Valentine returning and threatening the entire downworld had nothing to do with whether he had the gumption or skill to be a leader but the fact that they hadn't gotten rid of him yet made him feel as though he wasn't doing his best. As they though he wasn't good enough And he knew that when his parents arrived they would echo those exact words to him.
Jace saw Alec pacing as soon as he stepped into the room and decided to try and calm him down without making him explode, which is the typical reaction you get from Alec when his anxiety is high. He noticed Alec's hands balled into a fist behind his back, a tell tale sign to stay away, but he decided against it anyway.
"Everything looks amazing Alec", he stifled out cautiously as Alec swiftly turned around.
"You sure?" Alec breathed out nervously and walked in the opposite direction of Jace, scoping out the room again.
"Alec I'm sure the room looks as good as it did your fourth time around"
Just as Jace said the words, Izzy and Clary shuffled into the Hall. They looked stunning. Izzy wore a black dress that hugged her curves along with a ruby necklace and her signature snake bracelet while Clary wore a dress that, in Alec's opinion, was probably taken out of Izzy's closet.
Jace discreetly looked Clary up and down. From her fiery red curls all the way to her black stilettos while Izzy began frowning when she saw Alec inspecting the food.
"Is it just me or is it worse than usual today?" Clary said in a tone that was only audible Izzy as she motioned her eyes toward Alec.
"It's not just you...Alec get away from the food!" Izzy yelled while walking over to him.
"I'm just checking" he mumbled, ignoring Izzy's request.
"Alec!" she shouted again.
"Fine"
He walked over to one of the tables that was near him and pushed a chair that was sticking out awkwardly back into the table loudly.
"Shouldn't you two be getting ready or something" Izzy lectured, switching her glares between both Alec and Jace.
"I am ready," the two said simultaneously.
Izzy looked them both up and down disapprovingly as they were both basically in what they wore all the time. Training clothes. The look was clearly one of judgment as Jace started stretching out his unironed shirt.
"Wow" Izzy sighed, giving a look to Clary that apparently said something only women could understand.
"You guys stay here, Clary and I will start letting people in, won't we?" She said, turning her head to face Clary.
