"This is a bad idea" Alec hissed as he trudged down the steps of the institute.

But once he reached the bottom turned quickly at the sound of a familiar, annoying voice.

"Yeah, is that because it was mine," Clary questioned defensively, taking a few more steps towards an unmoving Alec.

He looked serious. He always looked serious, but even more so when Clary Fairchild was in the picture. Alec glared down at her through hazel eyes. Being as tall as he was made him even more condescending. Not to mention his dark features and sharp angles that seemed to curve with every facial expression. He was attractive, very much so. And maybe if he weren't so cold he would have more friends, possibly more admirers. But he liked to keep a barrier between himself and distractions. Only ever considering his job and his family, those that he loves, which certainly did not include Clary Fairchild. By the Angel, he couldn't imagine any reality in which that included Clary Fairchild.

"Actually no" Alec growled, "It's because I don't approve of this mission, I don't care what the context is, we are-"

"Alec come on," Jace interrupted.

Alec turned his head swiftly for a moment, we eyeing Jace, then refocused his attention on Clary.

"We are not putting our lives on the line so you can figure out your life story"

"Hey this isn't just about me"

"Oh sure"

Alec took a step closer, but Clary wasn't backing down either. He couldn't tell what he disliked more. Her personality, or the fact that she had grown so close to Jace. Like a leech. Sucking off all of them just to use them to her liking.

"Hey, enough" Jace intervened, placing a hand on Alec's chest.

In an instant he settled. His anger diffused into deep breaths as Jace guided him a few feet away from what he felt was about to become a crime scene.

"Are you okay?" Jace whispered, grabbing Alec's arm.

It sent a wave of warmth mixed with something else he couldn't quite comprehend throughout his body. He tried to tear his eyes away from Jace to ease the tension he felt, but Jace simply maneuvered his body to adhere to Alec's movements, forcing him to confront his feelings until Alec stopped his failed attempts.

"I don't like this" Alec spat out.

"I know, but listen"

"I'm listening"

"Good. Look if we don't find this magic man"

"Warlock" Alec corrected.

"Warlock, if we don't find this Warlock, Clary is screwed"

"Again, is that a bad thing"

"And Valentine wins. We never find the cup. And that makes us what?"

Alec looked away not wanting to answer.

"It makes us what," Jace tested a little louder.

Alec turned to face him again.

"Bad Shadowhunters" Alec mumbled

"Exactly, now please, we can't do this without you"

Alec scoffed.

"I can't do this without you. We're parabatai, remember?" Jace continued, squeezing Alec's shoulder.

Speechless at the words, Alec could never seem to turn Jace down. He felt too strongly about him. He had always blamed it on being Parabatai, but now they're older, and he can't quite put his finger on it.

"Okay" he gave in.

"Okay?" Jace chuckled at the response.

"Okay"

They made their way back to where Clary and Izzy were standing, probably having a similar conversation. By now Izzy was used to apologizing for Alec's cold and somewhat sassy behavior. Clary approached Alec once more, while Jace and Izzy side eyed each other at the confrontation. It stayed silent for a few seconds until Alec finally spoke.

"Let's go"

"Yes!" Clary beamed as Alec immediately turned and started into the city

"This isn't for you," Alec reminded as he cloaked himself in preparation for the cross into the mundane world.

"I know" she replied with a smirk.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The Pandemonium, is what the sign in front of the night club read upon entrance. The lights were bright and the music was painfully loud, but the group remained true to their mission, there would just be a few more distractions than planned. Jace took the lead once he realized at a party full of downworlders, they would stick out like sore thumbs.

"Alright, Clary comes with me. Izzy-"

"I got this" Izzy interrupted as she walked off in the opposite direction.

Jace turned and gave a simple nod to Alec. They didn't need to speak to communicate.

Alec likes to think he moves swiftly and skillfully in the field, which proves to be true as he glides across the room in what seems like a few steps. He's looking, but he's not really sure what for. The most powerful Warlock in New York is what Clary had said earlier, so whoever he was looking for has to be popular. A man with an entourage.

"Follow the crowd," he suggested to himself.

While the room was already crammed, it seemed to become even denser as he reached the back of the building. There. It looked like a bubble of people. Alec didn't always like coming into contact with others unless he was fighting them, but he would make an exception just this once. He dove himself into the bubble of downworlders, pushing past groping hands and messy dancing until a couch filled with more people came into view. Although he was still being tossed around in between sweaty bodies he tried to focus himself.

The first thing he noticed were his eyes. They weren't normal like his, more of a cat shape, and bright. He could see them from at least ten feet away. The mystery man held a drink in his hand and he appeared to be utterly bored. As if he had been to so many parties in his lifetime that he was accustomed to the noise. And he was attractive. Without a doubt, attractive. Blew any thoughts of Jace out of the water, attractive. And it wasn't just his looks, it was his ora. He looked magical. Very good at magic at least. His leg was draped over another mans and his arm rested on some other downworlders leg. So openly sexual. The thought mesmerized him. It was as if Alec had been struck and had to be brought back down to reality. And he came crashing when he realized the man had caught him staring. Alec didn't appear to be nervous but was running through ways to get out of this position in his mind. With a whirl of his hand the man changed his drink from a gin and tonic to a margarita. Definitely a Warlock, Alec thought to himself. His eyes must've widened just a little because a smirk grew on the face of the man.

Alec was unsure of what to do. He was never unsure of what to do. Alec always had to be two steps ahead of everyone and everything around him. Calculating plans A, B, and C in his head before he even arrived at a mission. But, he couldn't have predicted or prepared in any way for this one. No. He couldn't have predicted this very attractive man staring into his eyes as if he was some sort of meal to be devoured. So in this state of confusion Alec did something he's never done before. He walked away.
