Kitten (Nya and Maya)

For this story, let's just pretend the season 15 ending was different and that this is set a month after it all.

"Mom, please let me get a cat!"

Nya was begging, showing her mother a photo of a Siamese Kitten constantly and forever asking the same question.

Maya sighs. "Nya, do you know how hard it is to take care of a pet?" She asks, waiting for an answer. A simple shake of a head was all she got.

"Taking care of our pet bunny at home is enough work, let alone taking care of a kitten." A deeper voice said as he walked in. He sat next to his wife, laid their pet bunny on his lap and let Maya pet the little rabbit. Ray then raised his eyebrow at Nya's unusual demeanour, she never acted like this.

Nya looked at her father. "But I'm an adult now! I know all the complications of getting a kitten and having to train them. I just want a cute little companion to have when Jay's not here.." Her begging then turned into a quiet mumble, a blush appearing not so long after.

Ray looked around, then crossed his arms. "Well, I suppose if-"

"Nya, you know cats can live for 20+ years right?" Maya cut off her husband, earning a 'excuse me' look from him.

The mentioned girl nods and carries on with her rant about wanting a kitten. "But look how adorable she is! All of her brothers and sisters have a home but not her!" She seemed to be getting a bit upset over this, but not for long. She swiped to show them a new picture and it's of the kitten chewing on a little piece of blanket.

"Awww," Ray smiled.

"Okay, I will admit that kitten is adorable, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let you have one." Maya stated. "Well, not yet anyway. You're still healing from defeating Wojira."

"Nope; I'm getting her."

"What did you just say?"

And Ray was left alone.

With his pet bunny.

"Huh,"

Maya walked downstairs, ready to start breakfast for her kids and the rest of the ninja team, however was stopped by two low talking voices coming from the gaming room. One was feminine, the other was masculine.

She slid the door open as quiet as she could and walked over to the sofa.

Right there was her two kids. One was laying down with a kitten on her arms while the other was kneeling beside her and stroking it's fur gently. They both had big smiles on their faces and were trying their best to keep quiet.

The previous Ninja cleared her throat to alert her kids that she was there, and not only made them jump, but the little kitten too.

Nya ran her hand across her back and hushed the kitten softly. "Shh, Kitty, it's just my mom." She mutters, before looking up at said mom and raising a 'what the fuck' eyebrow.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you two." She says, before pointing to the little ball of fur on Nya's chest. "Or..that." Her tone shifted from genuine to monotone.

"Nya, I said to you no cats-"

Nya cut her off. "Mom, I'm an adult now. And..I've always wanted a kitten. But we could never afford one. Right now in my life is where I can afford a kitten and all of their needs too. I'm so grateful that I can, and..well, I'm happy."

Maya felt a little sorry for her kids. They weren't ever able to get things they wanted, and that was also a big factor to missing out on their childhood. So getting a cat right now when they can afford it finally make them happy. And all Maya wanted was for her kids to be happy and safe.

She sighed and smiled gently. "Fine, but I don't want it near me." She said.

Nya nodded and smiled.

"So, what's it's name?"

Everyone jumped and turned around to see their father/husband walking in with his rabbit, Coco, in his arms while walking up to his wife before giving her a kiss and letting her hold Coco.

Kai looked up with a big smile. "Luna. Jay named her."

Coco didn't seem to feel at all safe with another fluffy being in the room, so she kept herself in Ray's arms and enjoyed being pet by Maya.

"Nice name." The older male says.

Two weeks later, Nya had came over to visit her mother and father while Kai stay at home due to a fever. She was laying on the sofa with Luna in her arms, cuddling her and giving her lots of affection.

Maya walks in and smiles, then holds her hand out for Luna to inspect slightly. But she noticed the treats as soon as the hand was in front of her, and she devoured them with her tiny kitten mouth.

Nya squinted her eyes despite having her glasses on. "Hey, you didn't want her."

Maya smiled. "What are you talking about? I love Luna." She cooed, getting down onto her knees and scratching the fur underneath the kitten's chin, causing her to purr.

"I have an idea."

"Oh, no,"

Maya playfully threw a tea towel at her daughter. "Hush," She said. "I was going to suggest if Luna wants to meet Coco. They're both awake." She says, causing Nya to smile and look at Luna.

"Do you want that Luna- Oh, big stretch-"

Ray immediately popped into the room. "Did someone say Coco and Luna meeting?" He asked, earning a smile and nod from his wife, plus a kiss as a good morning call. He then leaned down and pet Luna gently, smiling when he got a purr in reply.

Maya nodded. "I'll go get her, you go be a softie."

"Shushhhh..."

Next thing you know, you have a kitten and a bunny on the floor being extremely (and surprisingly) content with each other.

"Betcha glad I disobeyed you now, huh?" Nya asked.

Her mother sighed. "Kinda."
