We entered the study to see Nyx and Ajax speaking to each other. They appeared to be in a heated argument that only seemed to intensify when we entered the room. My mom shushed them. They both glared at each other in silence. Nyx made eye contact with me, but I quickly looked away. I could feel her disappointment, which caused Ajax and my mother to turn to me. Ugh! I hate that we can feel people's mood! There is no privacy!

"I'm sorry I'm late, your majesty." Hailey bowed.

"Don't worry, gentle soul." My mom sat down. "Ajax, inform everyone." Ajax opened his mouth, but my mom then held up a hand. "Hailey, everything will be reinstated. I let my emotions cloud my judgement. I apologize."

"No, it's my fault for-"

"Hailey, we both know you are innocent." Our eyes widened at my mom's words. "It was misplaced anger and fear of what could have happened to Kennedy. You obviously didn't know Kenny was going to runaway." My mom smiled and motioned for Ajax to speak.

"Alec has accepted our terms." Everyone smiled. "But on a condition." Our smiles dropped. "He's too busy with an assignment that he claims is more important than our war." I rolled my eyes. "So we have to meet with his sister... Lara." Hailey gulped while Nyx's mood appeared to worsen. "It's the only thing we've got, but Alec assured us that Lara will meet with us."

"Is she that bad?" I wonder if she's anything like Zena.

"Worse." Nyx spoke. "She's very hostile towards us."

"Why?"

"Nyx here had a past with her." Ajax spoke while I felt my jealousy spike.

"It meant nothing, Ken. If it brings you comfort, she's also hooked up with Onyx." Nyx softly smiled. "Lara's just a madwoman who has no interest in doing anything that doesn't directly benefit her. She's incredibly selfish." Nyx took a deep breath. "I don't have high hopes for this meeting."

"She's not the ideal person to put your trust in." I turned to Ajax. "However, we can't be picky. I know Lilitu has reached out to her and is expecting an answer. We have to plead our case, especially when she's not fond of us."

"What have the light angels done to her?"

"We didn't back her in a genocidal war, so she responded by slaughtering innocent human orphans." Hailey wiped a tear. "She attacked that specific orphanage since she knew that some light angels were watching over those poor kids." She choked back a sob. "And then she murdered the angels and hung their mutilated corpses for us to see."

"Who were the angels?" I slowly asked.

"Hailey's siblings." Nyx answered since Hailey was sobbing now. Nyx moved to hug Hailey while Ajax placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "She's a heartless monster and should be proceeded with caution." I could see Ajax nodding along. "When's she expecting us?"

"A few hours... our time." Ajax spoke.

"We should purposely be late." They turned to me. "Let's show her who's in charge." I smirked.

Ajax, Nyx, and Hailey were discussing how to proceed with the meeting. I snuck a peek at my mom to see her deep in thought. She looked away and sighed. I noticed she was off when they were speaking about Lara. Her expressions and reactions were as if Lara was her daughter who lost her way. I detected love in her heart for Lara, which was weird since Lara has committed so many heinous actions. My mom caught my gaze and gave me a small smile. My mom knows Lara intimately... but how?

We watched the vampires and wolf casually lounge around the balcony. I didn't know who Lara was, but Hailey told me she was incredibly beautiful. It didn't take long for my eyes to find the person I assumed to be Lara. I observed the infamous Lara and my God... she's beautiful! Not as beautiful as Nyx, but still... Lara is absolutely gorgeous. She should be a model or something. I've seen vampires, but I've never seen a vampire as beautiful as her. Jeez, who'd she inherit her looks from?!
