Y/N placed the filled water bottles and clean towels on the bench while the boys were warming up for their practice match with Karasuno.
To be honest, she was excited and looking forward to this match since she has heard a lot about the new team from her cousin. But she was bummed about the fact that the captian of her team would not play that day.
In the absence of Oikawa, Iwaizumi took the harness to manage and supervise the team and Yahaba was their substitute setter.
She stood beside the coach as he was explaining the line up to the players.
"It looks like they are here," Yahaba informed.
Y/N watched as the team entered the gym. The most noticeable players were the energetic bald head while the other was short orange haired. The latter was too nervous. Her eyes spotted a familiar blue-eyed player. She recalled Kindaichi talking about him a little while ago.
"All the best everyone." She wished them luck and got head pats in return.
The teams got into the positions, ready for the match. Excitement rushed through her veins for it was the first time she was witnessing a match from the sidelines.
The match got underway.
The orange haired shorty, whose name was Hinata as she overheard the team, was so overwhelmed that he overdid trying to receive the volleyball, including receiving for everyone. To make things worse, it was his serve when Seijoh needed only one more point to win the set. He was so jumpy and nervous that he hit the ball as soon as the whistle was blown, right into the back of Kageyama’s head. Thus, concluding the first set with Aoba Johsai as victors.
She immediately distributed the bottles and towels as the team returned. She could hear Karasuno's bald head's voice as he yelled something along with the powerful combination of “you suck” and “you have teammates to help you out”. That seemed to relieve Hinata of his pressure and his disposition returned to normal.
Kageyama and Hinata started off the second set with a quick attack, but the shorter missed the spike, even with his eyes closed. Kageyama apologized for the toss being too high, surprising his teammates as well as Seijoh's. The second set was much more even matched as Karasuno started getting into the rhythm.
In the middle of the set, she felt her phone vibrate. It was Oikawa's text to inform his arrival to the match. A smile formed on her face as she quickly typed the reply before focusing back on the match.
The third set was about to start.
"Oh dear... So you've had one set stolen under from us..hm?"
Y/N's eyes lit up as she heard a familiar childish voice while conversing with Iwaizumi.
"Oikawa-san!!!!!"
The whole gymnasium was filled with screams and squeals as the captian arrived. She winced at the shrillness and swore she would get deaf by the end of the year.
"So you're back!" The coach turned around to look at the brunette only to watch as Oikawa shared a high-five with Y/N.
"There's no way we'd win with our main setter absent!" The coach barked at which the captain just laughed while rubbing his head. Oikawa went for the warm-up before playing only to get nagged by the manager to not to strain himself.
Meanwhile, Karasuno managed to bring the score to 24-21 in their favor. However, Oikawa soon switched in as a pitch server. To Karasuno's shock, the captain had figured out that Hinata and Tsukishima were weak receivers, and perfectly served the ball at the blonde, gaining two points for Aoba Johsai.
At the last point, using his quick speed, Hinata sprinted to the other side of the court and Kageyama tossed the ball to him. Y/N was amazed by his speed and jump which reminded her of a certain volleyball player from her grandfather's coaching. The shorter then spiked it directly past Oikawa, resulting in Karasuno's win.
While the rest of Aoba Johsai is upset by the loss, Oikawa smiled after getting to see Hinata and Kageyama's freak quick in action.

Oikawa was returning after having a conversation with Karasuno when he spotted a familiar blue head who seemed to be searching for something or someone. He carefully tip toed to her while she was checking her phone.
"Y/N-chan~"
The manager screamed and instinctively elbowed him in the stomach making him double over in pain.
"Y-Y/N-chan it's me," He muttered in a pained voice while the girl had her hand on her chest to calm her racing heart.
"O-Oikawa-san! Don't go scaring around people!"
Oikawa sheepishly rubbed his nape while caressing his hurting stomach. He ruffled her already messed up hair while chuckling. Y/N, in return, tried step on his feet only for him to take a step back causing her to curse at his attentiveness.
"So. What were you doing here?," She asked after her nth failed try to step on his foot. They began walking towards the gymnasium.
"Just a friendly conversation with my junior's team."
"I think i know how friendly it was."
"Hehehe."
"Kageyama... Has changed.. In a good way. You've noticed it too," Y/N spoke out catching his attention. She noticed how he was trying to get along with his team during the match.
"And after seeing how good of a dynamic he and that Hinata share, I am pretty sure that he will be on the crest of the wave," She muttered to which the male just hummed. She could easily detect the annoyance and uninterest in his hum.
With a laugh, she skipped ahead of him and started walking backwards while facing Oikawa. He had a confused look at her sudden behavior.
"Don't worry Oikawa-san. Kageyama might be a better player but you'll always be my favorite player though."
Oikawa halted in mid track. His brown eyes were wide opened and his lips were parted in astonishment. She never ceased to surprise him with her words.
He watched as she turned around and sauntered ahead of him as if she never said anything like that. His brown eyes could only gaze as her blue hair bathed in the reddish hue of the sunset. Her hands swayed with every step.
With a chuckle, he ran to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder bringing her close to his body. His action caught her off guard again.
"And you'll be my favorite, Y/N-chan!"
Although, she had and would speak her thoughts freely about Oikawa being her favorite player, surprising him everytime, however, just a single simple statement like this from him was enough to reduce her to a blushing mess. And leave him smirking smugly.
