"L/N-san, can you tell us how are you feeling, now that you'll be getting your mark?," Hanamaki asked like an interviewer and held his water bottle in front of her like a mic while everyone else sat in a semicircle like the audience.

Y/N sweatdropped at their actions. She wondered how it was the same team that intimidated everyone in tournaments.

"Why are we doing this again?"

"It's called payback from back then!," Watari answered making her sulk as she remembered the time when she was the most interested one when he found his soulmate. She pouted while everyone laughed.

"So, L/N-san, can you tell us?"

Oikawa was drinking water but he gave a side glance to her waiting for her answer.

"Umm..... Excited, nervous and scared?," She replied, sounding like question while giving a quick glance towards the captain who didn't seem to catch her gaze.

"Scared?," Yahaba asked in confusion.

"Yeah scared." She confirmed. Iwaizumi and Kunimi could only stare at her with blank faces knowing exactly why she was feeling that way.

"Don't worry Y/N-chan! You're soulmate is going to be very lucky to have you!" Oikawa chimed, his expression doing a full 180 degree turn. She flashed a small smile.

"If he hurts you, then don't be afraid to tell us, we'll rough him up for you!," Iwaizumi spoke out with a grin. A chorus of "Yes!" erupted from the group.

Her worries disappeared for some time and she felt happy for how much they cherish her.

Her eyes sent multiple glances towards the clock, waiting for it to strike 12 o'clock. She was nervous and scared just as she told the team that afternoon.

Noticing her daughter's worry, her mother's eyes soften and she placed a hand on her shoulder. Y/N looked up at her mother's gentle smile which was so much like hers.

"Don't worry dear. Everything will be alright."

She smiled back at her mother, trying to relax.

"Happy Birthday dear!" Her father wished her. She glanced at the clock to see the hands overlapping each other at 12.

"Happy Birthday my baby." Her mother kissed her forehead which calmed her nerves down. She thanked both of them. That's when she felt something.

The slight burning sensation behind her left ear which overlasted for around 5 seconds. Her heart was beating fast in anticipation. She got her soulmate mark.

Since it was at a place where she can't see it herself, her mother clicked a picture of it. She gingerly took the phone and her eyes widened and a sad smile appeared on her face. Her heart ached.

It was a left butterfly wing.

Unbeknownst to her, her vision started to blur but she kept blinking to get it cleared. Her parents knew her feelings and their heart broke to see their daughter look vulnerable.

Her mother hugged her and rubbed her back.

"Don't cry. Don't cry. We understand."

Soon, her father also joined in the family hug.

She pulled away from them and rubbed her tears. She flashed them a smile which was not even a one percent of her usual bright one.

"I'll open the gifts tomorrow. Feeling sleepy."

She trudged towards her room. She flopped herself on her bed, clutching her pillow. Whimpers erupted from her and she silently cried. She knew it coming. She knew there was no gurantee for it. But she still had hope for it to happen.

Her phone buzzed making her look up from the pillow. Her eyes red and face tear stained. She glanced at the caller-ID and it added to her pain.

She tried to ignore the call, wanted to just be alone for the night. But after a minute, she couldn't resist. She accepted the call.

"Happy Birthday Y/N-chan!"

There it was. The soothing childish voice which she had came to love. Even if she tried to fight it, a smile made its way on her face.

"Thanks a lot, Oikawa-san."

Oikawa's lips pressed into thin line at her voice. Shaky and quiet.

"What happened Y/N-chan? You're crying?"

He heard a chuckle from the other side and shuffling of blanket as she sat up.

"Nothing happened. I was just watching a movie and it made me cry."

She lied. What else she could do? Tell him that she wasn't his soulmate? Was he even serious last day when he said he wished for her to be his soulmate?

She hung up the call not wanting to talk to him. She laid on her bed facing the roof.

She had felt the warm and giddy feeling whenever she talked to him. However, she still decided to build a wall around her heart because she was afraid, she would get hurt if she ever falls for someone who wasn't her soulmate.

But that wall started crumbling the moment she first talked to him. Since that moment, the wall crumbled and crumbled and now his presence has grown up on her.

Her fear came true. She has fallen for a person who wasn't destined to be with her.

The same could be said for Oikawa. His heart ached as he figured out the reason behind her shaky voice. If they were to be soulmates, he would have felt the sensation of his mark getting completed, the moment they talked on call.

He stared out of the window. The moon shining brightly and the stars twinkiling like diamonds. A dry chuckle left his throat.

"What an idiot, Tooru."

He picked up his phone and went to her contact. The contact image, which was the picture they clicked when they had ice cream, brought a frown on his face. Quickly typing a text, he went to sleep.

Y/N's phone buzzed and the screen lit up in the dark room. She was huddled up in her blanket, ignoring her phone's buzzing and ringing.

The screen flashed a text from Oikawa in the notifications.
