Sunlight seeped through the curtain and kissed her sleepy face. She turned to the other side, not wanting to wake up. Just as she was about to sleep again, someone knocked on her door. She let out a loud groan and muttered an irritated 'what'.
"Y/N wake up. Your friends are here."
She laid there not understanding a single word from her mother. Suddenly, realization hit her. The volleyball team was there at her house and she was sleeping.
She groggily got up and went to the washroom to freshen up. She was struggling to open her eyes.
"Good Morning." She went downstairs to meet the team.
"Happy Birthday L/N- holy shit what happened to you!," Makki shrieked when he noticed her red eyes. She let out a long yawn before making her way to the couch. Oikawa was sitting silently on the other one along with Iwaizumi. Kunimi came there after his fourth cup of coffee, not wanting to miss his friend's birthday.
"Just watched a movie last night... Got me crying." She took a cup of coffee from the kitchen which her mother made for her. The team 'oh'ed except Oikawa who already knew that.
"Aaanyyways, happy birthday!" He ruffled her hair making her swat his hand away while laughing. She thanked him before giving him a side hug. That affection of hers continued as everyone wished her.
"Happy Birthday Y/N-chan." He smiled at her. She hesitated for a minute before giving in again. She hugged him, making a promise to herself that it was the last time.
"Where is Matsukawa-san?," She asked when she didn't spotted the third year with the group. At the instant, the door slammed open.
"Happy Birthday L/N!"
She grinned before thanking him and hugging him.
"My bad. Got late because of this!" He brought up a small box which he had carried there carefully. Makki ushered everyone to clean the table.
"And here!"
Matsukawa placed the box gingerly, praying for the item to be safe. They opened the lid to see a chocolate cake with "Happiest Birthday Manager-san!" written on it. There was also a small volleyball above it. How ironic was it. They were wishing her to be happy, when she cried her heart out the other night.
"Thank God it's safe." He let out a relieved sigh. Everyone laughed at his dramatic actions. Y/N brought a knife from the kitchen to cut the cake. Oikawa lit up a candle on it.
"Now sing!"
They sung the birthday song as she blew the candle and cut the cake. They decided that the pieces would go according to the jersey numbers. So, the first bite was taken by Oikawa. Followed by others and Kindaichi got the last one.
"You know L/N... The cake was chosen by Oikawa..," Makki whispered only to get hit by Iwaizumi, who did not want to bring up such topic that day.
"Gifts time!" Yahaba announced.
She proceeded to open up the several gifts which the whole team got for her.
Oikawa had got her a baby blue scarf and a music box, Iwaizumi got her a beige coloured hoodie , Watari got her a dreamcatcher, Kunimi gifted her a book she wanted to read and Kindaichi got a pair of clips with stars and planets on the ends. Matsukawa and Hanamaki got her creampuffs and chocolate stuffs.
"L/N, where is your mark?" Watari asked before scooping a piece of cake. His question caught the attention of everyone present there. She nervously shifted at her place.
"Here." She folded her ear so that her mark was visible to everyone. They leaned towards her to look at the inked design. Yahaba's eyebrows furrowed as he tried to remember where he has seen the same mark.

Iwaizumi volunteered to help her clean the mess after everyone left. Oikawa left half an hour ago because of some family dinner thing. Y/N washed the dishes while Iwaizumi took out the trash.
After the cleaning was done, both of them sat in her backyard porch, watching the dusky sky. The cirrus clouds splattered in the orange sky. Iwaizumi glanced at the girl sitting beside him eating the chocolate cake.
"You know..." He started. "When I said that I wanted you two to be soulmates, I meant that.... A genuine smile was something I never thought I would see on Oikawa's face. But you proved me wrong.... I have seen how comfortable and genuine he is with you. But now I think he was right back then.... We can't get some things just because we want to."
Y/N smiled at his words. Iwaizumi cared a lot for Oikawa. He might be aggressive for he would always hit him but it was only out of concern and his well-being.
"You really care about him huh? I would do too if I had a best friend.... I first saw him during a practice match in Kita-Iichi. That's when I was captivated by him. Not because of his looks but by his efforts. Might be because of volleyball background..... "
Iwaizumi watched as her fair cheeks turned into a light shade of crimson as she fiddled with her fingers in her lap.
"It's embarrassing to admit but whenever I see in practice, I just want hug him, tell him that he's doing great. I don't want to see him sad. I just want him to smile and get the fruit of his hard work. He deserves it."
Iwaizumi chuckled at her admitance. He was happy that there was someone who cared for his friend.
"You really do love him huh?"
She looked up at the sky and a sad smile appeared on her face.
"You know they say that you can't control your heart. I always wondered why would they say so. Ever since I learnt the concept of soulmates, I decided to not to fall for someone else but my soulmate. I would always daydream about them. But now, I know why they said that in first place. It really hurts now. I always tried not to fall for anyone but here I am, miserably in love with him."
Iwaizumi hummed. His heart was heavy when he thinks about how much both of his friends loved and cared about each other. But the fate has to be cruel.
"What are you going to do now? I know your feelings but you know...?"
Her blue eyes were filled with nothing but sadness. She smiled at him.
"What must be done."
Iwaizumi stared at her in confusion. Not getting what she said.
"Give up on these feelings and start again with my soulmate."
