It was Thursday night. Different from the usual one because it was his last day in Japan before he leaves for Argentina. Happiness would bubble up in his chest everytime his gaze would land upon the plane ticket. Happy for being a step closer to his goal. Happy for being able to make his parents proud.
However, all the happiness shattered the moment his phone lit up from a text. His smile morphed into a confused frown. He blinked a few times thinking that it was sent to the wrong person but how can his soulmate send such text to anyone else.
[yui]: i think we should separate our ways.
Just a sentence and his mind swirled with confusion. He immediately, without any second thought, dialed her contact number. After a few rings later, she finally picked up the call.
"Sasaki-san... What do you mean by the text?" He spoke, without wasting a second.
"Jeez.. Why in such a hurry? And what's wrong with it?" She groaned as if the text was normal.
"I think it is meant for someone else. You mis-sent me."
"Mis-sent? It was meant for you." She said apathetically making his eyes widen at her words.
"Wha- but why? Why do you want to separate ways?" He couldn't understand why she was doing so. Although he didn't love her but she was his soulmate.
"It is for the best Oikawa. Don't be clingy."
"But I am your soulmate!"
"So what? I am telling you it's better. You are immersed into volleyball and don't have time for me.. Then, why should I spend my life with someone who doesn't has time for me?"
"What? I always had time for you but you never wanted to spend time with me."
"What time? Calling me for your matches? You just don't want to leave your game! That's why I want to separate ways!"
"Sasaki-san-"
"See Oikawa, I am telling you again, I don't want to live with someone who loves a game more than me. And you will never change."
"Wai-"
"That's it. I leave my way. You leave yours. Don't contact me again!" The ring went off. She hung up on him. He stared at his phone screen as the message of being blocked appeared.
Iwaizumi entered the room only to see the lights switched off. He could still see Oikawa due to lamp. Oikawa heard the click of the door and sat up to see his best friend.
"Iwa-chan? What are you doing here?" Iwaizumi was confused at his sulky voice. It was different from the energetic one of his from the morning.
"Why sulking here?"
"She left me." Oikawa muttered as his gaze was focused on the moonlit sky. Iwaizumi was confused at his vague answer. He wasn't sure who Oikawa was talking about. Sensing his confusion, Oikawa answered.
"I am talking about Sasaki-san." Although he didn't mean it, a relieved sigh escaped Iwaizumi making the brunette stare at him. He sensed his stare and cleared his throat.
"I thought you were talking about Y/N."
"Why would she leave me when we weren't together to begin with?" A dry chuckle escaped Oikawa and he dug his face in the pillow he was clutching. Now, Iwaizumi's words made him think of her. How much he was trying to forget about her before leaving Japan? But here he was. Thinking about her.
"Then, why are you sulking over her? It's not like you love her." Iwaizumi spoke out with a straight face. Oikawa blinked a few times.
"Love or not, she is my soulmate." He reasoned. She was his soulmate and that was it. It's not like the universe was giving him any exception for he never loved her.
"What about Y/N?"
The question made Oikawa shut up for a while. Iwaizumi stared at him as his expressions softened. Again the look at his face appeared which he had always seen whenever Oikawa was with her.
"Is that even a question? You know it too."
"Then, confess." Oikawa looked up at his friend with wide eyes. He may be confident on the court but what made his friend think that he would be confident at this matter too. His face screamed 'are you serious?' expression.
"Yes I am serious. Go to her. Tell you feelings. There's no need to kill your feelings just because of this damn universe." He sat on the edge of his bed. Iwaizumi couldn't see his friend suffer because of his love. Finally, there was someone who would stand by his friend's side and support him.
"Are you serious? You are saying as if it's simple. It's not Iwa-chan! She has her soulmate. Why should I go and make things awkward?! And I can live like this!"
"Like this?!? Do you know what kind of face you make whenever she is with him!!? And you are not making anything awkward! I know!!!" Iwaizumi's voice raised with every word.
"How is it not awkward?" Oikawa's voice was soft and quiet. Iwaizumi barely could make out what he asked.
"You've never seen her face when she's with you. You've never noticed her actions for you. For God's sake, the whole team know about your feelings."
Oikawa's eyes widened at his words.
"I am not going to say anything further about her but you'll never regret confessing to her."
"But him-"
"Do you not trust me?" Iwaizumu stared straight into Oikawa's eyes. His gaze was stern, not wavering.
"Of course, I do." Oikawa whispered and buried his face in his palms, not knowing what to do now. Surely, he loves her. He can't even think of anyone but her. But how the hell was he going to confess to the girl who is happy with her soulmate?
"Then, take your phone. Text her to meet you. She'll come."
