Before arriving at the building, Taeyong decided to stop by and buy some cookies again for Jaehyun. Though he doesn't know if the man did really eat them, he'll just buy them anyway. He always thinks that people should eat a decent amount of sugar every day for extra happiness, and he does it so it was tested and proven by him. It's where most of his energy came from.
He comes into the hospital building when he arrived, by walking, and goes towards the specific room after he spoke to the nurse by the reception. Holding the bag of cookies, he was actually excited to see Jaehyun again. Okay, he already saw him this morning but what's wrong with missing someone that fast?
He stood infront of the door, he hesitated for a bit if he should just come and welcome himself in but he softly knocked against the door instead. He waited until it opened and revealed Jaehyun's aunt with a curious expression but changed into a surprised one when he saw Taeyong.
"You're early," she said with a small chuckle and stepped out of the room, closing the door behind, "You didn't cut your shift just for this, right?"
Taeyong shrugged playfully, "I don't know...Anyway, you called me for...?"
She smiled softly, "I feel like you're just right for Jaehyun."
The boy felt deaf all of a sudden and it made him look surprised.
"W-What?"
"You're someone who could convince him to help himself. Although I've been with him ever since he was a kid, I feel like you have a different effect. It's really hard for a person to help himself when they already gave up, but I think you can do the trick," she explained.
Taeyong took a deep breath, "Oh. Do you mean..."
"I would like for you to stay longer for him. Maybe just until I'm able to get a job here. I still have to finish my contract this month," the aunt said.
Suddenly, the boy went and held her hand. The lady looked back at him and saw full determination from the boy, "I promise to help him to the best of my abilities."
She suddenly felt thankful.
"You're such a good boy, Taeyong. That's why you're being loved by everyone and going to be loved by anyone."
Taeyong smiled, "I want Jaehyun to feel the same as well, Ms. Jung."
Those simple words quite made the lady feel emotional. No one has ever wished for Jaehyun happiness. No one made an effort for his nephew, neither try to understand him. It took her a long time to think about this. She's asking for Taeyong to stay, like taking some of his time off of him for Jaehyun. It felt really selfish and didn't want Taeyong to think that this is his responsibility, but the boy looked like he really wants to do this.
"Don't take this as something you should be focusing on. Yourself and your personal priorities are still important."
"Don't worry, Ms. Jung."
For common people, this would look like it makes no sense and asks why would you waste your time with someone who's considered by most as a burden. But for people like Taeyong, it meant so much to them that they're able to help someone. Same thing goes to people who struggles, either mentally or physically. Though they don't show their emotions often, they appreciate anyone who tries to understand them.
It really does mean so much to them.
"Well, why don't you visit him inside? I'll just get some food to eat. Do you want anything?" she asked.
Taeyong shook his head, "I'm fine, thank you. I'll be on my way in a few minutes."
She nodded and gave the boy the permission to go inside before she goes towards the cafeteria nearby. Taeyong knocked on the door, not wanting to startle Jaehyun, before he slowly opened the door and peeked in. The boy looked around and saw the man just seated upright on the bed, looking right back at him.
"Hey...Can I come in?" Taeyong asked.
Jaehyun slowly nodded, "Sure, I guess..."
The boy went to take a seat on the chair beside the bed. Taeyong placed his bag down on his lap and almost forgot about the cookies he was holding. He smiled as he handed the bag to the man.
"I thought you'd like to have some sweets today so I passed by to buy you some cookies," Taeyong uttered softly.
Jaehyun looked at the small paper pouch. He remembered when his aunt gave him the same paper bag and told him that it came from a boy who was a stranger that bought him cookies. It didn't mean anything to him at first, it felt like someone just pities him, but now, it somehow felt different today.
The man accepted it and even felt his heart race when Taeyong smiled excitingly.
"You look good--Like, I meant healthy," Taeyong said, rephrasing his first few words.
Jaehyun nodded.
"Just so you know, your aunt actually talked to me--"
"I overheard it, and it was both of our decision," the man suddenly said, cutting off the boy's words and caught Taeyong in a surprised state.
"Both?!"
Jaehyun looked away with a small frown, "What choice do I have?"
Taeyong felt guilty about what he meant by those words. Maybe Jaehyun didn't really had a choice and pushed him to the idea of him helping a few more weeks. The boy fidgeted with his fingers and bit his lower lip before he took a deep breath.
"You can tell me if you hate me."
The man looked back and didn't expect the boy to say that. Hate was a strong word and Jaehyun felt the same, assuming that everyone has a huge hate on him for being 'overreacting' with his state but Taeyong didn't make him feel shit. They don't know each other--that's what keeps lurking in Jaehyun's mind, but then this guy started to get involved even when Jaehyun despises including people into his mess.
"I know it's hard to be with people who you don't like...and I don't want to be the reason why you started hating waking up and thought you'll be dealing with another problem. I'm fine if you want me to go so, you do have a choice," Taeyong added, though it was the opposite that he wanted to say.
It took a few seconds of silence, somehow not too awkward for their systems, but Taeyong expected to hear Jaehyun telling him to get out and stay away from him.
"I thought you had better mindset than me," Jaehyun said.
Taeyong doesn't know if he's joking or not but he looked serious about it. The boy thought he failed to give a good impression.
"N-No! I'm just...giving you the right to decide. Don't think about your aunt. I'll try to explain to her that you don't--"
"I don't hate you...Happy?"
He can die. Taeyong felt so happy that couldn't stop smiling so widely and suddenly pulled Jaehyun into a hug. Though it took the boy a few seconds before he realized what he did so he immediately pulled away with him panicking and blushing, and Jaehyun looking very surprised.
Though Jaehyun didn't do anything, he was tensed and his mind getting frazzled.
Were hugs always that warm?
