...........
I GOT OFF MY LAZY BUTT!!!
FINALLY!!!
YAY!!!
That won't last very long.
Yay....
Well, I'm here right now!
For a bit....
So don't expect me to go insane on updates.
Cuz that won't happen.
Got that?
Good.
Now here is my rant....
Comments.
Comments, comments, comments.
When you read a book that you like on Wattpad, specifically a chapter, what do you do?
You vote. You comment.
What happens if you hate it?
Should you send the author what you're feeling? Hate?
NO.
That's not okay.
Hate comments.
HATE COMMENTS.
Look people, I get it if you want to comment on a story or chapter to rant or rave or whatever....
But you don't have to make the author feel bad about their writing.
Don't tell them things that you would never say to their faces if you could.
When you read a chapter you don't like, you don't just feel hate, you usually feel the need the change the story to make it better.
How about next time you read a chapter or story you don't like, you could say something like this (The following example will act as a comment on my newest book, One by One.)?
"You're book is really interesting so far! I like how you brought Orange into the story and I love her personality! If I were to make any suggestions, I would say to write a stronger summary and to talk more about Anna and the school. Keep up the good work!"
Let's break that comment down into bits.
"You're book is really interesting so far!" You're not lying and saying you thought the book/chapter was great, but you're not hurting the author by saying it was bad. This person thought that One by One was unique, but not indicating if it was unique in a good way or a bad way.
"I like how you brought Orange into the story and I love her personality!" Say something that you like about the story, to show that it had at least something good in it. XD This person was talking about how he/she enjoyed the character Orange and how she was introduced, and was not using that space to write something he/she hated. The author will not feel bad and you won't be lying.
"If I were to make any suggestions, I would say to write a stronger summary and to talk more about Anna and the school." You're giving constructive criticism. You're not saying, "Oh, I hate this book, my ideas are way better. You have to use my ideas!" That's not okay to say and it will put down the author. You're lightning giving the author suggestions without lying.
"Keep up the good work!" You're letting the author know that he/she is doing a good job so far on writing the story (with exception of a chapter or part you didn't like). This person is letting me know that I'm doing a good job on writing my story and to keep it up. This person also could have said, "I can't wait for the next update!" or "You're writing is good so far!" You're not lying, you're just being light instead of coming down hard on the author and the story.
So....
Please....
DON'T MAKE THE AUTHOR FEEL ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!
How would you like it if someone commented on your story saying how bad it is?!
YOU WOULDN'T FEEL TOO GREAT, THAT'S FOR SURE!!!!!
If you don't like a book or a chapter, comment by following the example.
Okay.
So we're good?
Will you follow the example next time you want to comment on a bad story/chapter?
I hope so.
See ya!
