Song example: Pompeii
By: Bastille
Lyrics example: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bastille/pompeii.htmlI have to admit, I've done this in my writings before. I've done this in my rough drafts. I raise my hands, I admit it. I'm not perfect. I know, that seems impossible, but I'm not perfect!
Song lyrics. SONG LYRICS! I notice that some people put the entire lyrics of songs in their stories. Don't you always skip the lyrics when you come across them in a story? I do. Don't put the entire lyrics of a song all clumped together in your story. It makes it boring and people will probably end up skipping 75% of your chapter. I want you to read this:
I sob as I run to the alleyway.
Everything is crashing down. What do I do? Where do I go?
As I slow my pace, I take out my phone and plug in my earbuds. I start to hum to my favorite song.
Eh-eh-o eh-o
I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to showAnd the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from aboveBut if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around usAnd the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from aboveBut if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?Eh-eh-o eh-o
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins? And the walls kept tumbling down (oh where do we begin?)
In the city that we love (the rubble or our sins?)
Great clouds roll over the hills (oh where do we begin?)
Bringing darkness from above (the rubble or our sins?)But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?If you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
Eh-eh-o eh-o
Tell me, did you skip at least some of the song? I would've.
It's okay if you put part of the song lyrics in your story, or even separate the lyrics. In my short story, "Titanium," I separated the lyrics of Titanium. Go look at that short story I wrote for an example.
Remember, you could always just put the chorus or some other lyrics in your story.
Get it?
Good.
See ya.
