They rushed the man down into their basement practically tripping over each other on the steep steps. Derek came out of a room rolling out a surgical table and placed it beside a smaller table. He swiped the table clear of objects and replaced it with needles and tubes. They injected him with all kinds of drugs, falling in a deep sleep. Taylor didn't dare approach the man he just bit and hid in a corner, brushing his fingers through his hair with his heart racing. "It was an accident." he whispered. Derek heard him clearly and turned to him. "We don't have time for accidents!" he shouted. He opened the man's eye lids and lit a flashlight, observing his pupil.

"You do know it wasn't his fault. That man was on our territory." Jeff said looking up at him. He turned off the flashlight, letting out a sigh. "I know."

"What happened anyway?" Rick asked.

"I was running alone until I heard a gunshot in the distance. To be sure none of you were a part of that, I went to check it out and found a deer carcass laying on the ground. That's when I figured there was a man hunting on our territory. Before I could get out of there that's when he saw me. I growled and barked to get him not to shoot and he ran off. You know how it goes, it's hard resisting a chase. I'm sorry."

Derek scratched his head, not sure what to say. "Let's just wait and see if he survives."

Derek rushed up the stairs to take out his anger somewhere else. Greg tried to comfort Taylor but he wouldn't stop worrying.

"How do you think I feel? I just changed a man's life forever, or maybe even ended it. Something like that doesn't just poof! It's gone!" he says with his fingers twirling in the air. He walked up the stairs, slamming the door to his room.

All of them hung out upstairs but Layla. She stayed in the basement, watching the man go through a bite. It fascinated her. The last time they dealt with a bite was with Layla and she wanted to see what it looked like. She hovered over him, observing his nasty bite. She thought of the night when she got bit.

"Unbelievable. It healed."

"What healed?"

"Who are you?"

"What was that thing? Answer me please!"

"You're very demanding."

"My name is Derek Flores, and what just happened tonight will change your life forever."

"How do you know?"

"It's going to sound crazy. But you will understand soon."

"What? Tell me?"

He let out a sigh and stopped in his tracks.

"You have just been bitten, and you're the first female ever to survive. You're the first female werewolf."

Stairs creaked in the basement behind her. She turned and saw Kyle who failed to sneak down and check on her. "What are you still doing here?" he asked approaching her. "Just watching him, making sure he's okay."

Kyle greeted her a seat on the small couch in the basement. She sat with him, her eyes never leaving the man's body. He looked at her, trying to read her face.

"You're curious? Aren't you?" he says with a smirk.

"This is the first time I've ever seen a bitten man." she murmured.

"Well it's not as great as you may think."

"Why?"

"Not all bites end pretty. They can get to the point where it's not just dangerous for them but for us. They can go wild, even if they're dying from the bite. Think of it as a zombie virus." he explained.
