Their car ride out of Binghamton was quiet. Awkwardly quiet. Maybe because Layla fell asleep in Kyle's lap, comforting her by keeping her hair out of her face and making sure each turn John made didn't cause her to fly off the seat. She was crazy tired and they didn't want to wake her.

They drove into Corning, New York. As they drove through the streets they looked out at spice shops and clothing stores with cute Halloween decor on their doors and windows. John peeked at his rear mirror, getting glimpses of Layla. "You've got quite the girl, Kyle."

Kyle took his eyes off her and looked back at him through the rear mirror. "You found out the hard way?

"I guess you could say that. She followed me and jumped me into an alley, pinned me to a wall and punched me right in the jaw," he laughed. "She's strong. Brave. A fighter." he continued. "Yeah." he murmured as he stroke her hair. "You guys hungry for lunch?"

They stopped by a fancy diner. It was filled inside, people huddling in for a coffee away from the icy air outdoors. They had no choice but to eat outside, but thankfully the sun was out.

They ate and ate until their stomachs were satisfied. Pan-seared salmon, caesar salad, lemon garlic shrimp and grits, grilled steak and spaghetti with meatballs. As they ate, John finally got the chance to answer Jake's questions he had back in the alley, explaining in detail so he wasn't asked again. He hoped he'd buy it, as it seemed he was judgemental.

The young waiter came out and gave them their bill, John giving her a wink as he pulled out his money. "Excuse me, do you know where I can use the washroom?"

The waiter stared at Kyle in confusion. He could see John mouthing something to him in the corner of his right eye. Restroom, he mouthed to him. "Oh, the restroom, I mean."

"Oh, yes, our restrooms are outside the restaurant right down here," she said pointing forward in his direction. "And then turn right, there will be a men's restroom through there. It's nicer than it sounds."

"Thank you." he said and got up. Layla grabbed his hand. He looked down at her and kissed her forehead. "You won't lose me again, I promise. I'll be back." he said to her. She nodded and let his hand slip out from hers and watched him walk off alone.

"You guys call restrooms, washrooms?" John asked. "In Canada, yeah." Jake said. "Interesting."

They all got up and headed inside to pay the bill.

As Kyle walked out of the restroom, wiping his slightly wet hands on his jeans, he turned back to the direction of the restaurant. But there seemed to be something odd about the group of men that walked towards him. They had sharp eyes locked on him, and they marched in perfect rhythm. Instead, Kyle turned the other way, walking down the street. He kept looking over his shoulder. They seemed to be getting closer and closer, though Kyle kept walking the same pace. He walked faster, bumping into pedestrians. Like as if this doesn't look suspicious at all. But they were doing the same thing, but they pushed them out of the way. Kyle couldn't control his urge anymore. He began to run. They ran after him too.

After minutes of waiting in a long line, they finally paid their expensive bill and struggled to get out of the crowded diner. People; men, women, teenagers, stared at them. It gave John the creeps and alerted Jake that something wasn't right with some of these people. Jake spotted a man blocking the exit like a guard, not to mention he was a pretty big guy. Jake stopped the two of them.

"There's something wrong."

"Definitely."

"Kyle should of been back by now."
