Beams of the suns rays penetrated through the dense green leaves that hung among the thick branches of the trees. The grass stood high, tying into nasty knots as the animals stepped down onto its soft carpet. Rocks rested within the streams of water that traveled around the woods.

A little rabbit hid in a thicket, munching the untouched grass. Its long ears stood up from the bush, pointing up like an antenna. It pranced around looking for more, peering out from its hiding place.

Somewhere in the distance not too far, a stick snapped in half, disturbing the silence. The rabbit rose up on its hind legs, its nose twitching in the air. Another stick snapped, this time louder and much closer. The rabbit scurried away, running from the mysterious sounds.

It pounced lightly as it hopped on the dirt, making very little noise as it traveled down. But there was something much more heavier that shook the ground just behind the small creature. Black fur as dark as night flashed in the thicket, moving around like a shadow. The rabbit stopped and sniffed around, its ears flying in each direction. Then finally, the rabbit found the location of its predator. It didn't have to sniff him out or hear for its heavy breathing from the long run, the rabbit made eye contact with it, its blue eyes glowed unusually bright, something that wasn't common in these forests.

The dark creature decided to make the first move and ran out of the thicket towards the little creature. The black wolf was too fast for the rabbit to even take a step away, watching as the jaws opened wide, seeing nothing but darkness.

Layla sat on a fat log, her feet tangling amongst the vines. She laid her hands over the fire, feeling its heat rush into her palms. It was the first time she felt peaceful since they escaped the frightening nightmare of Bradley's diabolical plan of a perfect pack, the fire crackling as she pushed the sticks around in the fire.

Sticks crazily snapped somewhere in the bushes that surrounded her. She looked back, the bushes vibrating around. A shirtless figure walked out holding a dead rabbit, the corpse swaying back and forth. She recognized it was Jake.

"You couldn't bring a shirt with you?" she asked. Jake took a seat on the log beside her, taking out his claws.

"I don't want to risk getting the only shirt I have dirty, and plus it's a hot day today." he answered. He began shredding the fur off from the rabbit, skinning it carefully.

"I hope one rabbit is enough, didn't find much today."

She nodded at him, keeping her eyes on the fire.

"Have you ever skinned a rabbit?" Jake asked, trying to start a conversation.

"Never and certainly don't want to."

"You squeamish?

She took her eyes off the fire, staring into his bright eyes.

"Sorry, that was a stupid question." he chuckled out.

"I may be a predator but that doesn't mean I like the sight of animals dying and being skinned in front of me." she said.

"Is it because you were bitten?"

"Is that how it goes? Is it because you and Kyle were born wolves mean it doesn't bother you?" she asked.

"I guess, it may be. It's never bothered me. I've lived in the country for all my life and I've been taught to hunt and kill."

He ripped off the rabbit's coat, tossing it on the ground. He picked up one of the sticks Layla sharpened and stuck the rabbit through it. Layla took her eyes away from him. He laid the stick on the fire, watching the rabbit roast.
