The leaves that still hung on the crippled trees bloomed like flowers of warm colors, the rusty red drowned with the fiery orange, a wealthy yellow brightening the two colors into the perfect palette.

As the wind picked up it took the shallow leaves with it, gliding with the current and landing onto the crumpled leaves, only to rot with them by the end of the day. The others were more adventuress, diving into the hairs and shoulders of the little group that walked the thicker areas of green space.

They seemed to love Allison's hair the most as they camouflaged like Hawaiian flowers, making her beauty stand out to them. Jeff was nice enough to pick them out for her when she didn't notice, giggling like a troubled school boy.

They weren't far from Rochester, they could see the taller buildings peeking like the rising sun. Sarah and Jeff walked along together, discussing parts of their lives before this all happened. Kyle kept glancing at Allison as she stared at the ground, watching her feet shatter the dead leaves like glass. She seemed bored out of her mind.

"So," he said, his voice cracking. He hasn't spoken all day and hearing his own voice disrupted his ears.

Allison found Kyle catching up with her, tripping over rocks that hid under piles of leaves. His foot swept the debris away like a broom and found himself by Allison's side. "How did you find Taylor? If I haven't asked already."

She relaxed her hands into her jacket pockets. "I picked him up at a bus stop. He didn't look so good and I felt bad leaving him there."

"Do you do that often? Pick random people off the street?"

She raised her head from the ground and focused on a large tree empty of leaves. "Why? Is that a problem?"

"It can be. You never know who you're letting into your home."

"I know to take caution, alright. But this is something I do. I help people, save people."

Kyle took a peek at her again, but her eyes weren't on him.

"I was studying to be a doctor before I met Taylor."

"What made you want to become a doctor?"

She sighed. "My mother had cancer. I visited her everyday at the hospital and held her hand. I told her everything would be okay, that she would be healed and we could return back home. But when the damn doctors told me they couldn't do anything for her, I broke down. I wish I could of saved her."

"I don't want anyone anymore to have to go through what I went through."

Kyle put his head down. "I'm sorry."

"Thanks." she whispered.

"I lost my mother too, but in a way you couldn't imagine."

"I'm sorry for yours too. How?"

Before he could tell her his story, the bushes in front rustled around. Sarah immediately got out her handgun from her waist and pointed it at the bushes. "Step out. Now."

Out from the thicket came two guys, their hands away from their sides. Jeff and Kyle recognized them instantly. "Alex? Daniel?"

The two vampires walked towards them but slowly as they were confronting a vampire hunter, their first one in a while. "You guys are alive."

Sarah stepped forward. "That's close enough."

She faced Jeff, his expression mixed with relief and confusion. "You know them?"

He nodded. "They're vampires we met back in Hamilton."

Vampire. She dropped her bags, ready to kill them.
