She silently tip-toed up the stairs, but they creaked loudly. She had to get into the shower without her mother seeing her covered in blood. But that was only part of the problem. She also had to make sure no blood stained anywhere in the house. Her mother was a nurse, so she couldn't lie about it being spaghetti sauce.
She made it up those creaky stairs. Just when she thought she was safe, she saw that her mother was occupying the bathroom. Layla cursed under her breath and scurried into her bedroom like a rat, locking the door behind her.
Her mother came out of the bathroom and saw that Layla was home.
“Layla you're home?” she shouted.
“Yes I'm changing.”
“You're late again Layla. Next time I won't let you go out at all.”
“There was... traffic.”
“I very much believe you.” her mother said sarcastically. Her mother walked downstairs, Layla quietly sneaking into the shower.
Her mother found a surprise in her living room. The twins sat on her couch, eating away the chips she just bought.
“I guess we have guests?”
“Oh, we're so sorry, this thing happened earlier because of this situation thingy we some how got into...that shouldn't have happened but it did. And to prevent that thing from happening again...we need to do the “no one can't be alone in case --”
Greg kicked Rick in the foot. He wined in pain, shaking his foot around.
“Will you shut up?!” he violently whispered. Her mother was confused.
“I don't know what you're talking about and it sure sounds like a lot of “things” happened.”
“Yeah, lots of things...” said Rick in pain.
After an awkward talk with Layla's mother the twins decided to avoid another conversation by going into her room. They busted in like cops, invading her space. They found Layla crumpled down on the floor with a garbage bag.
“What are you doing here? You were suppose to wait downstairs.”
“Rick almost gave everything away. I don't trust him.”
Layla sighed. She stuffed the bloody clothes into the garbage bag.
“You're throwing them away?”
“Yes, which is why I always have a second.”
They looked on top of her dresser to find the same outfit neatly folded.
“Smart girl.”
She focused her hearing on her mother's heartbeat. It had a slow steady beat., which meant her mother finally fell asleep.
She opened the window in her room, waving down at the twins. They had to stay outside until she fell asleep. They climbed up the window with their sleeping bags strapped to their backs, but Rick was a bit noisy. They laid it down hiding behind her bed to use it as a barrier in case her mother opened the door. Layla always wanted a lock, but her mother didn't trust her.
