I was running through the small path of our rice field nang tinawag ako ni papa.

"Eury, kakain na!" Papa shouted from our little modern cottage sa gitna ng aming eta-ektaryang palayan.

"So what are your plans in you senior year Eury?" Tanong sakin ni mama Zenaida.

"Ma..." Nagalalang tawag ko.

"What is it Eury," Balik naman niya sa'kin.

"I want to study in Dumaguete for my senior year" Sabi ko habang naka tungo. My mom's eyes widen.

"Oh my! That's great Eury! I really thought na you will never leave Bohol, kasi alam ko naman kung gaano mo kamahal ang probinsya" My mom exclaimed happily, clearly happy with what she heard.

"Are you sure Eury?" My dad asked me wearily. Dahan dahan naman akong tumango bilang sagot not meeting his intense gaze. He sighed audibly bago niya inilapag ang kanyang kubyertos.

"Okay," He paused. "Your grades are excellent... So I'm giving you the permission to study in Dumaguete" Nanlaki naman ang aking mata when my dad said that.

"Thank you ma! Thank you pa! You can't imagine how happy I am na pinayagan nyo po ako na sa Dumaguete mag aral!" I exclaimed happily and papa chucked at that.

"Pero once your grades go down at malalaman ko na nag lalakwatsa ka doon I papa balik kita dito. Understand that Eury?" Papa said using his authoritative voice.

"Yes pa" I answered still smiling.

"What school are going to enroll to Eury?" Mama asked and my face lit up .

"Silliman ma" I said with a bright smile.

"Eury Zubiri Odette A. Soriano" I smiled when the MC called my name, I smiled even more when he mentioned that I was the valedictorian of the strand stem.

"I'm so proud of you Eury" mama said to me habang niyayakap ako while papa was about to hug me when my mom glared at him saying na way daw siyang mang a-agaw ng moment.

Then my very handsome brother went to me and gave me a hug and binulungan nya ako "Anong ginawa mo Eury? San ka nakakuha ng itim na mahika para utuin ang mga tao rito para gawin kang valedictorian ha?" Kinurot ko naman siya which he laughed as a reply.

My brother Emritt Theodore Owen A. Soriano is 4 years older than me and 1 year older than him.

"Congratulations Eury!" Monica greeted me and hugged me tigtly.

"Congratulations too Valedictorian of ABM" I said back to her and she just gave me a grin at kinurot ako sa braso and led me away from my family.

"Monica masakit huhu..." I said habang hinihimas ang kinurot nyang braso while pouting.

"Ano na Eury? Sinabi mo na ba sa kanila ang plano mo?" I looked down at my feet. Knowing exactly what she's talking about.

"Eury, you don't have the whole summer to waste okay?"

"Sasabihin ko naman sa kanila... I just need to find the right time..." I told her.

"And when is that?"

"I-im not yet sure." I replied with uncertainty.

It's been a few weeks since I graduated senior high school in the strand STEM. And I already rehearsed my line over and over in my head kasi alam kong nong pinayagan ako nila mama at papa na mag aral sa Dumaguete ay chamba lang, muntik na ngang hindi ako payagan ni papa doon.

It's also been a few days since I received all of my acceptance letters from different universities around the Philippines and one particular letter was making me nervous.

UST, the school where he's at now. I got in, I must admit, but the thing that's making me nervous is the fact that maybe my parents won't allow me to study there kasi Monica won't be in the same school as me, sa Ateneo kasi siya.

"Eury have you decided na kung saang school ka mag aaral?" Tanong sakin ni Papa habang kumakain kami ng hapunan. I froze. My hands were still in the air trying to get the rice.

"Pa, I was thinking UST, pa..." I didn't dare looked him in eye as I said those words in a small voice. Natahimik sila.

I caught a glimpse of my father expression in the back of my eye. He was dumbfounded, shock was evident in his face but he was quick to compose his self.

"How long have you thought about this, Eury" My father asked. My hands tightened at the utensils that I was holding. Di ko sila sinagot. Because I have thought about this long enough.

"Do you really want this, Eury?" And while avoiding his gaze I also caught a glimpse of my mothers expression, she was staring at me with a confused expression. Unsure if she was ready to let me go.

I nodded in response to my father's question. Even though their expression and hesitance was already giving me the answer.

"Okay, its up to you, Eury and you're old enough to decide for yourself, what I and your mother can do is to support you" My papa said to me at napatingin naman ako sa kanya, gulat.

"I trust you, I trust you that you won't make any decisions that can make you regret forever." His eyes were soft and love was visible on it. My mom burst into tears. My eyes were now getting blurry because of the tears that was threatening to breakthrough. she immediately went to me and engulfed me in a tight hug. And I feel hot tears roll down my cheek.

They decided to let me go. And I cannot be more happy to hear them say that.
