6: Potential Enemy

Katsuki huffed at the bright sun above his head that burned his scalp. He absolutely hated winter because of the cold but he didn't like the summer any better for how much he sweats and right now he really wanted a shower or dump some water above his head to refresh. He looked around his surroundings to see if there was anywhere he could go to cool down for a bit but all the bigger buildings were either destroyed or crawling with Groupers, searching for flesh. The houses looked fine except for the fact that they were covered in weeds and trees were growing through the windows but none of them had a backup generator or working water fossetts and if they did, only muddy water came down.

Katsuki walked a little more down the highway before he spotted a gas station and it was in pretty good condition with only weeds growing on the concrete and on the actual building. The problem was, the road that led down the highway bridge was completely destroyed. Even if he wanted to go across it, he would have no choice but to turn around and go back.

Katsuki huffed once again as he threw his gun over his shoulder, the strap spinning around his body, before he approached the edge while being mindful at the pieces of metal sticking out from the ground and the loose pieces of concrete until he laid down flat on the ground to see how far down the fall was. It wasn't all bad but it was still pretty high where you could sprain an ankle or break a leg if you jumped down

He looked around and noticed a pile of cars stacked up in a mountain-like shape. He pursed his lips at the image of the nest but it didn't look like anyone was home so maybe if he could climb down far enough, it would only be a 9ft drop from there to the mountain of cars before he could just climb down.

Katsuki started climbing down the edge of the bridge, using the long, broken metal pieces to support his weight. It was a little hard since he didn't have any gloves so it hurt when he would slide down but once he reached the lowest piece and jumped off, landing on the cars with a loud 'bang' and froze for a few seconds from the loud echo. Katsuki then skillfully made his way down the pile of broken and rusted cars until he reached the safe ground once again before he turned around, suddenly noticing how unnatural the large gap from the broken bridge above.

"You're much bigger than I thought" Katsuki murmured to himself as he really looked at it.

The gap was at least 10-15ft wide with the metal rods all curving towards one direction and large holes inside on the concrete like footprints but were much bigger and more round. Katsuki knew it was probably from the creature Shimano was talking about years ago but it seemed that it had not passed by here in a long time considering the mountain of cars that Slicks build for cover when they can't hide anywhere to cover from the sun.

And the fact that the bridge was tall frightened him at how large this beast was but shook it away and started making his way towards the gas station, taking hold of his gun again. He quickly crossed the street and started looking around for any form of life but all he could find were a few bones and skeletons and those looked chewed on as well.

Katsuki made a disgusted face at the stench of both gasoline from the leaking pipes and the few dead bodies and quickly covered his mouth and nose with his shirt as he made his way inside the station. The door was a little hard to open due to how long it was kept closed but he managed, the bell above it jiggling and making it ring, Katsuki smiling a little when he used to annoy the cashier by opening and closing the door when he was little.

"Forgot how much of a little shit I was"  Katsuki laughed with a shake of his head before making his way through the entrance of the gas station. It smelled of rotten food and meat with a few flies flying here and there and Katsuki quickly looked for some sort of face covering and settled with a black and white bandana and immediately tied it over his face and nose so the smell wasn't as bad.
