Chapter 4

The difference between a genius and an idiot is the number of words that roll off their tongue.

I tapped my pencil lightly on the notebook in front of me.

The difference between a psycho and a genius would be...

My eyes flickered to the pink lamp at the side of my four-drawer study desk.

...The law.

I blinked again, shaking my head.

No, to be specific, it wouldn't be the law. Rather, the consequences of the law. Humans were similar to garden hoses. If one were to cover the tip of the tube, no matter how powerful the pressure of the water became, the water would not spurt out erratically.

The water being a human's desire and the stopper being the law in this case. The pressure of the water depended on the person's upbringing, in which the stronger the social pressures the person has been under, the deadlier one could become. And this is where the Death Note comes in.

The note gave power to defy the law, successfully removing the stopper bit by bit, at the end fully allowing the water to be utilized as a weapon. I grimaced, writing down strands of broken words.

First, I don't remember the exact dates of the event occurring. ALthough I was an avid watcher of the anime, after I started university, my passion almost immediately died out. Not to mention my tendency to only watch any animation once, no matter how much I loved it. I chuckled dryly, licking my lips.

Did I have a good memory? I wouldn't say no. In fact, my memory had burdened me quite heavily when doing exercise problems in any subject. I would unconsciously memorize the answers to the problems instead of actually understanding the formula of the problem.

Which resulted in my lack of observation academically. Yet...I was also gifted in hiding things psychologically.

The pick up of the Death Note occurred in Light's high school arc. In which occurred the 24 hour killing, hijacking of the bus, and L's movement in security cameras. A period after, Light meets l at To-Oh university. The cafe incident, which took place after the tennis match. Afterwards, it led to Soichiro's fake heart attack and Misa's appearance and Soichiro ramming a car into some kind of building. After that...

I paused, my pencil hesitantly lifting off the paper. Something happens and L dies. Yet I don't recall how. After L dies, his successors take over and go against LIght. People die, blah, blah, blah, and Near wins due to Light being impatient and egoistic.

I scoffed, leaning back into my chair and letting my eyelids close to search into the back of my brain.

If i had learned anything from the anime, it would be that Light's impatience killed him off in the most pathetic way. Pathetic as being humane. Humans could not become Gods if they didn't get rid of the very thing that defined them as humans.

Joy, anger, sympathy.

Emotions.

I reached out my hand towards the light bulb and clenched it into a fist.

Get rid of them. All of them.

"Sayu?" My brother's voice rang out behind my door before a couple of clear knocks.

"Come in!" I forced upon an innocent smile before raising my eyebrows at Light's appearance behind the door. Ever since that incident at the table, Light had undoubtedly become unexpectedly...nosy.

"Whassup, Light?" I swirled my chair to face him, deliberately spinning in an extra circle before stopping in front of him. Light watched me again with those quiet observant eyes, hiding them behind a facade of innocence.
