Chapter : 20

Ave's Pov

The next day I made sure that I go in early for work.

Regina left early morning today since she had a meeting with the mayor this afternoon, but she asked me to meet her in office today after work, she wanted to discuss something which had me anxious.

I was sitting in the hospital staff lounge having a much needed alone time to figure stuff out, this room was on the far end side of the pediatric ward far away from action and that made this location not so popular among doctors or nurses, they had a new one built last year near the recovery room for easy access to patients.

"You are early today" Betty said walking in the lounge as I rolled my eyes at the thought of this Lounge being not that popular.

"Please don't start with that again, I have already been held accountable for being late yesterday" I stated.

"Someone's in a bad mood today" she remarked, pouring herself a cup of coffee from the machine she took a seat across me on the table while.

Ignoring what she said before I tried to stir the topic off, "I like this place, everything here is calm and not in a rush like every other place in this hospital is" I said taking a sip of my apple juice.

"No yeh, I usually come here to work on my patients file" she said.

Followed by a long silence between us, Betty is a good friend of mine and I just didn't want to involve her into something which I know nobody would want a part of.

Few more minutes passed and I knew this for sure that the silence was making her uncomfortable and she will any minute break and that she did, "Okay, are we both going to pretend that everything is fine with you and this hospital when clearly things are not, during this past few weeks I have seen a lot of things which once I never thought could even be" there it is, I knew she would bring this up sometime, people will cuz they have seen stuff happen around here which are weird. 

"Things, what things ??" I asked trying to play it off but I know Betty, she will not let it go unless she has answers.

"Really Ave, I thought we were friends..." Betty was cut short by none other than Jill who was with few of her friends, so much for this place being not so popular!!

"Awwww are you lost little one ?" Jill mocked to which her friends laughed. 

Jesus Christ what is this, High School ? I rolled my eyes at that thought.

"You want me to call Dr. Black, huh ?!" she said walking towards me and as much as I tired to ignore her, I wanted to punch her in the face. I don't understand what changed between me and Jill. We were such good friends and now we were like cat and mouse. I miss her being on my side.

"Oyeeee leave her alone Jill, don't you have somewhere to be ??" Betty stood up for me to which  Jill laughed at her.

"Oh okay now I get it, you the same like her...Now who is your daddy little one ?? or mommy ?" the latter she said glaring at me.

"What is going on here ?" Jack asked walking in the lounge.

"You want to know what's going on here, let me tell you what...Ave here is a little and Dr. Black is her mommy" she revealed and that made me tear up a bit because I felt exposed.

Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry,

Don't you fucking dare cry Ave,

Everything will be okay,

Please don't cry!! 

I chanted in my head but it was getting hard for me to not give up, the humiliation was killing me inside out and all I wanted to do was disappear to a far far land where nobody knows me.

Suddenly I felt sick, my chest started to hurt and the walls to this room started caving in, slowly darkness consumed me and the last thing I remember was Jack and Betty rushing by my side all panicked.

Betty's Pov

It all happened in a matter of seconds, I checked her pulse rate which was really low and she was hardly breathing. 

Jill came beside me and Jack but he backed her off "you stay away from her!!" he said scooping her up in arms as he rushed his way out of the lounge and towards the emergency room.

"Help, please can someone go get Dr. Joshua to the ER, quick!!" Jack requested a nurse who rushed towards the reception where there was an Intercom through which she requested for him to come to the ER.

"and where is Dr. Regina Black" he asked and that I had no idea about.

"In a meeting with the Mayor" said one of the male nurse who just came in with a stretcher, Jack laid Ave down on the stretcher and pushed it all the way through the corridor and towards the ER.

Soon enough Joshua came in walking through the doors and once when he saw Ave, his state mimicked that of ours, "What the hell happened ??"  he asked us and at this moment none of us were ready to speak up.

"We were in the staff lounge discussing something and she collapsed" I said skipping the part where all the commotion took place.

"Was she showing any signs of respiratory distress before that ??" Dr. Black asked as he checked her heart rate.

"Nope she wasn't, she was fine before and it all happened in a matter of seconds" I said to which Dr. Black nodded as he rushed her out of the ER and we were asked to stay here.

"Discussing something ?? Really ? why didn't you say what happened!!" Jack came at me while his eyes remained at Jill, tauntingly.

"At least I said something!! unlike you who were all standing like statues and don't you dare blame me for something your sister did Jack!!" I retort back to which Jack shakes his head with a sigh and looked away from Jill.

Jill was about to say something when he stopped her, "Save it Jill, I didn't expect this from you. We used to be good friends and what happened to it all ?! This all for what exactly Jill..." He said walking towards her "and now I am not sure if I can ever trust you around Ave or if even I can trust you. You lost my respect sister!!" he added and after that he left.

Jill's face said it all, she was sad and I wanted to tell her it was okay but it was not and that she should respect other's privacy.

There were more secrets here than in the government, but I still wonder what secrets are they hiding in Area 51 ??   Aliens perhaps ??

I don't know if I should finish this book already or take my time constructing the characters and give them a meaning to exist even if it's in the story!!
