The past few weeks have probably the worst of Steve's life. He truly wasn't exaggerating when he said that. First Bucky had two meltdowns within a few days of each other. The first meltdown happened as a result of too many demands on him that he didn't understand. Steve admitted fault to that one.
The second meltdown was undoubtedly the worst because Bucky woke up early in the morning, screaming and kicking on the bed from what Steve assumed was a nightmare escalating into a meltdown. When he got Bucky off of the bed and they were both on the floor in the normal meltdown hold until Bucky threw his head back in Steve's face. He didn't break his nose but he did bruise for a few hours. Bucky felt terrible but Steve told him it would fade.
That next week started off okay, Bucky didn't have a meltdown and Steve was able to get some paperwork done until they checked the mail and Steve found the letter stating that his guardianship and marriage had been voided. That pissed him off. He didn't talk to anyone for the rest of the day, not even James who found the letter from the trash.
Fast forward to Friday, Bucky was sitting on his rocking chair while Steve attempted to watch tv. Bucky's been doing his humming stim for the past few days and frankly, it was really the sound he tolerated right now. And as much as he didn't want to admit it, he was depressed. He didn't want to think about it but with all this going on, he wasn't himself and Bucky was certainly feeling that. And his therapist has been telling him that getting out of the house will help ease the anxiety a bit.
"Buck, do you want to do something today?" Steve asked. Bucky hummed then flapped his hand which Steve has also seen spiking up more. "Is that a no?" Bucky hummed again. "James?" He saw Bucky flinch a bit then he looked at Steve.
"What?"
"Do you want to do anything today?"
"I do want to get out of the house but I don't want be just driving around without purpose."
"Yeah," Then a thought hit Steve. "Horses."
"Dogs. What are we playing?"
"No, remember in Florida when you said you wanted to do something and I mentioned horse therapy, let's try it."
"I'm doubting this."
"We won't know until we get there. Come on." Steve said. James got up and went in his room. He wasn't even sure what to wear at a ranch. Plus it was the start of summer and the temperature has been just touching 90 degress this week. So he did a simple t-shirt and jeans. He sat down on the bed, Harley whined, putting her head on his lap.
"Hi, sweet girl." Usually if he was about to have a seizure, she would start nudging him but she wasn't alerting just grounding him.
"James, you alright?" Steve said standing in the doorway.
"Yeah, just thinking. We can go." James got up and followed Steve to truck.
"Have you ever thought about learning how to drive?" Steve suddenly asked.
"I don't think I'll be comfortable driving a vehicle this powerful."
"Maybe the golf cart?" James shrugged. Not that he didn't want to learn how to drive, he hasn't felt the need for it. He just didn't have anywhere to go. He didn't have a job and right now with the way his life is going, it seems useless. James got in the truck with Chase and Harley jumping in the back seat. They backed out of the driveway and went to the horse sanctuary.
Which was conveniently only thirty minutes away. They drove down a dirt road until they came into an open area. They could see a few horses in a pasture and a few other animals.
