Jackson POV

"What the hell is this place?" I looked around the hidden room in wonder. How have I never seen this place before? The door closed and Professor Dara gestured for me to take a seat.

"You're close to finding out the truth but given the time limit we have, it's easier if I tell you now. You ever wonder why you haven't found a mate yet? How any of your pack haven't?"

I nodded, gesturing for her to continue. "It's because you're bound to Lalisa Manoban, my niece. No, you aren't her mate, but you're her protector. Your great great grandfather, the second in command to the first alpha, was protective of her mother. She was a human."

"Lalisa was human before, wasn't she?" It all made sense now. Why I never was comfortable leaving her alone here. Why I felt like I always had to keep an eye on her. Why I never liked Kim Jennie for her. "So I'm her bodyguard? She's the reason I can't find love?"

"Yes and no. Yes, you're meant to protect her for life. But no, she's not the reason you or your pack are cursed. You can thank a certain witch, who also cursed Lalisa, for that. The reason I'm telling you this Jackson, is to have you be ready to protect my niece, at all costs. The moment Lalisa takes another life, someone powerful and evil will be ready to wake up and it will be war."

"Nothing will hurt her." I vowed, making sure Professor Park could see the sincerity in my eyes. "Is it the human in her that makes me protective? Wolves aren't meant to care for vampires."

She nodded, handing me a photo from a book. Inside was a picture of a woman, laughing on the back of my ancestor, in wolf form. The woman was beautiful, she looked like Lisa so I knew this had to have been her mother.

"Lalisa's story is for her to share. Now that you know your part, I want you to take measures to ensure nothing happens to her. You can tell her the truth, but fair warning, Jennie most likely won't like it."

"She'll have to deal with it. Lalisa is for her to love, but mine to protect. She's my pack now and I'll take care of her."

She's mine in a way too Jennie. And nothing you say or do can change that.

Lisa POV

"And that is how much pressure the human skull can handle before it breaks." Professor Lee gestured to the crumbs of the skeleton skull on his desk. I looked over to see the vampires either sleeping or on their phones, no one caring about how to be gentle with a human.

To me it wasn't about being gentle, it was about blending in if I ever wanted to. I don't care for humans anymore, the only one I did care for was gone, I had no family left. Well, I technically had my aunt and my spell sleeping birth parents but I sure as hell didn't want to deal with that anytime soon.

I turned to the door when I saw Rosé waving her hands. She gestured to her phone and I pulled out mine, seeing a text from her.

Rosé 🐿: You're allowed to leave campus now! Let's go do something fun!

I grinned and nodded over at her. Thankfully class got dismissed and I walked over to the grinning mermaid, who immediately laced her arm with mine.

I heard a sound flying at me and turned in time to see a bubble of water flying at me. I widened my eyes as it suddenly turned to ice and crashed to the floor. I saw Rosé glaring at Tzuyu, who came over to us smirking.

"Sorry, didn't mean to do that." Tzuyu glared at Rosé, "Just thought I'd send a message. Don't get all big headed now that you won the race. Sirens will always beat mermaids, any day."

"Hey couldn't you, I don't know, stay in hell for one day?" I smiled cheekily at her, causing her to focus her glare on me now.

"Tzuyu!" We saw Chaeyoung snarling in anger as she stormed over to a now pale looking Tzuyu. "I told you to drop it. So drop it! Rosé won, you lost. Get over it. Sorry girls."

I waved as she gripped Tzuyu's arm and pulled her away. "There's never a dull moment in this school." I sighed as we went back to leaving the campus. "So what did you have in mind today?"

"We could go to the mall?" She offered and I nodded, climbing into her car, a cute little pink convertible. She went to start the car when suddenly Jackson stood in front of it, causing her to scream in surprise. "Unless you want to end up in the pet hospital, MOVE!"

"Rosie." I hissed softly at her rudeness but she blushed. "The food isn't going anywhere."

"But I want my food." She whined in a baby voice and Jackson came over to my side.

"Where you going?"

"Why?"

"Answer me please."

I rolled my eyes at him. "The mall with Rosé. Wait. What the hell?" I widened my eyes as he climbed into the backseat, smiling at us as if there was nothing wrong with that he just did. "I'm sorry I forgot the part where we invited you?"

"The mall is dangerous in my eyes. Too dangerous for you girls, you need my protection."

Rosé and I looked at each other and I read her mind. You can toss him out or throw water at him and I'll send him flying. Your choice.

I smirked, grabbing my water bottle and tossing it at him. Immediately a huge blast of water sent Jackson flying out of the car and she froze him to the tree behind us.

"Bye!" We shouted at him, a giggling mess as he struggled against the tree. Suddenly Rosé pulled out her phone, grinning evilly.

"Hello?" I widened my eyes as Jennie's voice rang out through the car. Rosé wouldn't..

"Hey Unnie. I left you a present. It's a certain Wang frozen to a tree next to the parking lot."

"ITS LIKE CHRISTMAS! THANKS HUBBY!"

"No! J-" I groaned as the call ended. I glared at the laughing mermaid driving. "You do know Jennie will probably castrate him right?"

"Not my wolf." She shrugged and for a moment, I could see the similarities her and Jisoo had. Maybe there really was that scary side to Rosé that Jisoo tells me about. Whatever it is, I'm not messing with this mermaid.
